If you are looking for a place to watch the Northern lights, or even just to relax and escape the busy city life, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!! Best weekend of my life filled of fun activities from snow mobiling, to dog sledding, ice skating, watching the auora or moon rise, late night hot tub relaxation, and more! Added... More

Ditto to all the other EXCELLENT reviews of this fabulous frozen adventure! Thumbs up to Jen and the staff in the kitchen...every meal was scrumptious and the never ending cookie tray kept us going through the day..between the activities. Remember to do "the aurora dance" should the weather not be cooperating. Accommodations were comfortable and the north facing room allowed... More

We, a group of 11, stayed at the Blachford Lake Lodge for the three-day-two-night package from March 22 to 24. Our main goal was to watch the northern lights. When we arrived in Yellowknife on the afternoon of Mar 21st, the sky was cloudy with flurries, so everyone felt pretty downcast – we travelled all this way from Toronto to... More

Had a great time here! We enjoyed the plane ride to the lodge. We went snowshoeing, snow-mobiling, dog-sledding and walking. We saw the aurora EVERY NIGHT. The workers at the lodge were great. They went outside every 10 minutes at night (until 1:00pm) so they could wake us when the aurora was visible. They gave us all sorts of help... More

In conjunction with my wife & adult daughter, I spent 5 great nights at this lodge. We (the daughter & I ) had always wanted to see the aurora and we had three excellent nights with the last two being severely affected by fatigue (ours) and cloud (the sky's). I was fearful the days would drag but not so. There... More

Mike runs a fantastic lodge, where his warmth, attentive staff, and own attention to detail made our stay there magical. We were fortunate to stay in the Sunrise rooms, but the Sunset rooms alike have beautiful views of the lake, and importantly, the aurora. We spent the days in great company of staff and fellow guests, and went dog sledding,... More

Flying in by ski-plane onto Blachford Lake was fantastic and the almost 5-hour Aurora Borealis extravaganza our first night there was amazing. The aurora were even more breathtaking and beautiful than I could have imagined! The staff were great and the meals hearty. I enjoyed snowshoeing, skating, snowmobiling and breathing in the stillness of the pristine wilderness. I stayed in... More

This was my third time at Blachford. It is a wonderful spot - completely remote, peaceful, everything we were hoping for. The staff could not have been nicer - warm and friendly, accommodating. I feel that I've made new friends in them. One suggestion: if your main goal is to see the Northern Lights, I think you should consider spending... More

A must for Northern lights watching. On 3 nights spent at the lodge, the last 2 nights were convenient for watching the Northern lights. And above that, very carefull and caring staff who made our stay the smoothest possible. Outdoors activities like dogs mushing and snowmobiling were very professionnal. From informations received, the Northern lights can also be watched also... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Blachford Lake Lodge, a family run business for over 30 years, is the only fly-in wilderness resort situated on Blachford Lake (60 miles south-east of Yellowknife). The 25-minute bush plane flight from Yellowknife is often considered as one of the highlights of a trip to Blachford. We pride ourselves on complimenting your northern experience with great food, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Our winter season (January to April) offers great opportunities to watch the aurora (northern lights), to go dog-mushing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, ice-fishing or simply to relax in the hot tub.Our summer season (June to October) offers great fishing. Canoe or kayak under the midnight sun (June/July) or hike one of the many nature trails. By late summer (mid August) the aurora becomes more visible again and one can watch the northern lights being reflected in the water. Anytime, feel royally when you follow the paths that William and Kate walked during their Royal visit at Blachford Lake Lodge in July 2011. ... more   less
