While this is a wilderness lodge, it has hot showers, fantastic food (including a never ending supply of fresh cookies), and an outstanding staff - including the young "volunteers" from around the world who were always helpful and interesting to talk with. The beds were comfortable, the facilities outstanding, and the fishing fantastic. While there were forest fires in the... More

Greatly enjoyed our 2 night stay, starting with the flight from the frozen lake at Yellowknife and landing on frozen Blachford Lake. Great fun and flying out just reinforced the sense of "wilderness". We had 2 nights to view the aurora in the wilderness away from light pollution. The second night we had a show which at the time (given... More

What a great experience. The cabins were well set up. Food was good. The hot tub was awesome with the northern lights. One of the best location to see the northern lights. They have a sauna too. The bathrooms and showers were really clean.

I spent five nights at Blachford Lake Lodge under the warm care of the young staff. The beds were comfortable, activities plentiful, atmosphere relaxed. I ice-fished and went dog sledding, and hiked one of several trails that wind through beautiful Canadian country side. There were always fresh baked goods waiting by the bar, as well as coffee, tea, and hot... More

The vast wilderness combined with the lodge's amazing hospitality has resulted in an unforgettable trip. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They are genuine, considerate and always looking for ways to better our experience. The lodge has many amenities and equipment available for the active (such as cross country skis, snowshoes, skates, nature trails) and also plenty of warm... More

True wilderness with an amazing staff make this worth the effort to get there. You will not be disappointed. The aurora was our main purpose and did not disappoint, but daytime activities were equally satisfying. Where else could you help build an igloo, snowshoe, enjoy dogmushing and do a little yoga? It was a trip of a lifetime. Thanks, BLL... More

Our stay at Blachford or BLL as they like to call it, was amazing. We were lucky to see the Aurora each night with one while we were dog mushing in -44C temperatures! The night sky full of stars, was lit up like magic. While the aurora was the main draw for travelling to BLL, the experience was made "whole"... More

Staff made the place amazing! Food was spectacular! Volunteers were incredible! Saw an amazing light show first night, (Feb. 21st). Went dog mushing at night to watch for lights second night! Beautiful night low lights. Next day went snowmobiling had a blast, saw wolf tracks! Dog mushing again handling the dogs alone with handler not far away on snowmobile. Saw... More

The main purpose of my trip to Blachford Lodge was to capture Aurora in all its glory. Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided to provide continued cloud cover the whole time I was there. On the plus side, the staff made sure that we all had fun, in some way, or another. There were loads of activities such as snowmobiling, dog mushing,... More

What bad luck that Mother Nature was not on your side, but I'm glad that despite that you had a lot of fun and enjoyed our great food. I am sorry to hear that your sleep was not quite as it should be and am looking at possible ways to address the problem: thank you for bringing it to my... More

Had a fantastic time at Blachford Lake Lodge with my family. Everything went smoothly from the Bush plane ride into the lodge to eventually seeing the aurora. Would defiantly recommend a stay there even if it was only for 3 days. Ticked everything off the list from dog mushing to snow mobiling and the hot tub at -30oC. We had... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Blachford Lake Lodge, a family run business for over 30 years, is the only fly-in wilderness resort situated on Blachford Lake (60 miles south-east of Yellowknife). The 25-minute bush plane flight from Yellowknife is often considered as one of the highlights of a trip to Blachford. We pride ourselves on complimenting your northern experience with great food, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Our winter season (January to April) offers great opportunities to watch the aurora (northern lights), to go dog-mushing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, ice-fishing or simply to relax in the hot tub.Our summer season (June to October) offers great fishing. Canoe or kayak under the midnight sun (June/July) or hike one of the many nature trails. By late summer (mid August) the aurora becomes more visible again and one can watch the northern lights being reflected in the water. Anytime, feel royally when you follow the paths that William and Kate walked during their Royal visit at Blachford Lake Lodge in July 2011. ... more   less
