Absolutely fine for Yellowknife with a helpful staff, but mediocre food. Rooms have spectacular views but are a little tired. Very dry air, but that's likely inevitable given winter climate

Initially we got checked into a room that already had people in it - not a huge deal - then the rooms have heat you can't adjust so it was uncomfortably hot at night - when the people return from the lights tours at all hours of the morning they were very noisey - the vending machines were empty -...

High- end luxury for Yellowknife! Clean, friendly staff, great restaurant. We moved here after suffering one night at Chateau Nova. We were given an 8th floor room facing the Great Slave Lake, with beautiful views. The ravens outside the windows were an added treat as they glided the winds close to the building. I recommend this place with highest honors!
The Explorer Hotel is one of the top hotels in the City. It is often busy and can be quite expensive ($165/night for a conference rate). It is a short walk from downtown. The hotel is well-maintained and comfortable -- and is as standard as they come. Do not expect any northern frills or exceptional elements. The restaurant is okay,...

Great hospitality! Room was great and well cleaned. Two little irritants,
It was very warm and you can't turn down the thermostat or open the window. Also, the plumbing needs a bit of work. Very noisy when water being used in the next room. Service and food was very good. Enjoyed the lounge a couple of times. Will book again...

My rating is actually "Good", not "Average", rating it compared with other Yellowknife hotels I have used. This is definitely the best, but there is room for improvement.
On the plus side, the rooms are nice, good decor. Staff are friendly, and I found the hotel bar/restaurant very good. Free Wifi is always a plus, especially since my blackberry did...

Rooms clean and comfortable. Decent restaurant and bar within the hotel which is important when the temperature outside is minus 30. Easy walk or cab ride to downtown restaurants if the weather is not frigid.
Thank you for staying with us at the Explorer Hotel. It is with comments like yours that help us drive to exceed your expectations in comfort, cleanliness and service.
Thank you again for your comments.

Stayed in the hotel sporadically for business between july to oct 2011. Still the best hotel in YK in my opinion (not much to choose from), in terms of facilities and quality of the rooms but some are really hit and miss. The newer rooms are fine but some of the others have faulty TVs, inefficient heating or a creaking...

This restaurant feels like you areceating in a cafeteria! I had soup/sandwich combinations for lunch...both days soup was terrible...as if the chef too whatevervwas leftover, brought it to a boil to call it soup! Worst soups ever. The tan melt sandwich might have been made by a 2nd grade student...maybe they would have actually done a better job. The steak...

I find the Explorer Hotel to be the best hotel to stay when I am in Yellowknikfe. It is Central - it is in easy walking distance to downtown. The hotel has a resaurant, but it is rather pricey. The rooms are clean, the saff are very helpful and pleasant. Shuttle service is free to and from the airport.
