Homeport Historic Inn in Saint John NB is a charming property, with commanding views and lovingly very well kept by proprietor, Ralph. We found it very well located as regards proximity to Saint John downtown and the awe-inspiring natural attraction known as the Reversing Rapids. Great value for money for this location so close to a major North American city.... More

Great Location in St. John. Wonderful breakfast. Ralph, our host, showed us how to walk into the center of the city along the shore. Views from the "Widow's Walk" of the whole harbor. Our room was inexpensive and beautifully historically maintained. Ralph can share stories of local politics, history, and places to eat and visit. We biked the Fundy Trail... More

The rooms were spotless and comfortable. The owners were extremely helpful in explaining directions around the city. Breakfast was delicious. There was a nice collection of DVDs to watch. There is also a really nice view of the city from here.

We stayed one night and were upgraded due to the construction work on Douglas avenue. The room, Fort Latour, was very comfortable and we were even found feather pillows as we do not like artificial ones. The bathroom was wonderful with very nice toiletries. Unfortunately we do not find urban landscapes very attractive and the flyover and railway tracks were... More

Be aware that this is an old inn with lots of nooks & craneys and plenty of ambiance, not one of the stark modern hotels. We stayed here in the Veranda Room for two nights in late June. The room was large, with a great view of the harbor. The furnishings were comfortable and appropriate for the decor of the... More

Hello B R traveller Thank you for the kind review of your visit this June. we do try to keep the place looking tip top with summer restoration and ongoing maintainence well under way now that the late spring has left us and the house is having a chance to dry out. And the yard and lawns that looked so... More

We found good and disappointing things about Homeport. On the positive side, the extensive guest lounges created through the combining of neighbouring Italianate mansions were ideal for relaxing. Our host was friendly and eager to spend time with his guests. The whole place, however, needs money spending on it. Our room was certainly in need of refurbishment, and hardly matched... More

Hello and thank you for the review Sorry we did not live up to your expectation. The delay in our annual painting and summer refurb program this year has cost us dearly in the last few reviews. I hope people appreciate that we are constantly working on the property but there is always going to be a spot in need... More

We stayed there Mid-June 2014. Let me say it is a beautifully furnished INN definitely not your typical B&B. The initial room we were placed in was VERY MUSTY, the window sill was covered in mildew, toilet did not fully flush. This reservation was made weeks in advance, yet proper prep of this room was not done. I forget the... More

Very sorry that masslass was disappointed we will certainly strive to have the rooms more carefully cleaned and dusted. As to the musty room, Mid June is typically somewhat foggy and damp around Saint John and this year was no exception. Very difficult to get things dried out and is more a reflection of our climate than the rooms at... More

This B&B is two old Victorians connected by a first level building of uncertain age. Many steps to entrance over wooden stairs. Front door locks every time you go out; does this say something about the area? Bathroom plumbing also Victorian: claw footed tub surrounded by opaque curtain; very unsafe - no handrails or solid walls for support. Plumbing has... More

This is the sort of review that drives most innkeepers mad. This guest arrived at our door in a rather irritated mode and it appears it carried thru with them for the entire visit to Saint John. But to respond to the points they brought up . There is a set of steps from the parking area to the main... More

The antiques are exceptional - hosts very accommodating and kind - food was fresh and tasty!! I would like to take in one of the concerts that feature Canadian artists during the winter - Ralph is creating a good reputation and a following with this initiative. I recommend visiting Saint John - a Canadian City with lots to offer!

Thank you for the nice review from this well travelled visitor. Our pleasure to show our rather grand and unique property off to folks from all over the world. We aim to be different and unique and hopefully provide an experince they would not find in a cookie cutter style motel or hotel. ralph More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set high on a hill with a commanding view of the Bay of Fundy, and the Historic Port and Skyline of Saint John the Homeport Historic B&B/Inn c1858 provides the perfect setting to relax and enjoy the gracious ambiance of Canada's oldest incorporated city. The twin homes were built in 1858,and were constructed for a prominent shipbuilding family whose boat yard was located a few hundred yards below on the harbor tidal flats. Its unique Italianate architecture reflects the opulence of the time with very large bright windows and rooms, 10 foot ceilings, free standing spiral stair cases, and detailed wood work rosettes, finials and columns. Of particular interest is a pair of carved figure heads that have stood sentinel in the formal twin parlors for nearly 150 years. Come stop for a while and enjoy these magnificently restored Mansions and be pampered in Five Star luxury. ... more   less
