What a dump! This is the one and only time tripadvisor has let me down. I booked this hotel because it was the cheapest place to stay in Whistler, and because the reviews on here were pretty good. This is by far the worst place I have ever stayed at. I think there should be a disclaimer on here to... More

If you are travelling on a tight budget and have low standards, this place is UNBEATABLE. If you want someplace nice ... spend more someplace else. You get what you pay for at the Shoestring Lodge. It is cheap, it is (relatively) close to the lifts, and it is the only place an almost broke partier can still afford in... More

I stayed here in April 2006 with a group of friends, we were only in Whistler for one night and had enough of us to book two rooms with bathrooms to ourselves. It's a bit scuzzy, but was basically clean and ultimately was very cheap. About a 15 minute walk into Whistler village itself, which at night was a little... More

Well, this place has some sort of weird asbestos/other lethal-powder in the air type-problem leading to what many referred to during my three-week stay as a repetitous cough cause by the dreaded 'shoestring lung' but on the plus side it's situated next to a dodgy pub that features boob-job-advantaged strippers three times a week, who pass through the hostel after... By far the worst paid accomodation I have ever had in my life. I have been around the world, and I can honestly say this is the worst place I have ever stayed. I seriously doubt the authenticity of the previous reviews as there is no mention of the countless flaws of this dump that I encountered. Stayed for 1... More

Ok, I stayed here when I first arrived in Whistler in September looking for work. Its an easy 10 minute flat walk into town and the staff are very friendly. The room I stayed in had bunk beds for 4 people, a large color tv and a bathroom. I was a bit shocked to find out a strip bar was... More

I really liked this place. Location was good, 15 minute walk to the village/short bus ride. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Has a nice restaurant, bar and shop attached and there is a supermarket and a couple of other nice places to eat across the road. The only problems are the bar turns into a strip joint, if thats your... More

Based on earlier reviews (not the Feb 28 one) I chose Shoestring. I just spent the night there, and have to say it's not something I'd recommend. Stayed in a private (single) room, which, compared even to a run-down motel, was not great. The bathroom had mould growing on the ceiling, and the room itself was tiny, with a non-functioning... This place was all around dirty. Our bed sheets werent washed before we were allowed to enter (after 4:30), so there were stains and --- on the bed. The pillows were dirty, and the sheets were gritty. We were kept up all night by people walking around upstairs, it sounded like the ceiling was going to cave in. My advice... More

I agree with the other comments made about this place. It's cheap and functional, and you get what you pay for, but it's all right. I never had any issues with the other strangers in my room and the bathroom was clean and convenient being in the room. The kitchen did suck, and there never any teatowels or cleaning rags... More
