Stayed here on someone's suggestion but if I had researched the hotel I likely wouldn't have stayed here. Our room was quite small and had a double bed although we had been told there would be a queen. No air conditioning and it was a hot night. No fan either. We opened the window the couple inches it would allow,... More

Located downtown, in close proximity to major sights. Very old building, but newly renovated. No air conditioning!! Very green! Ceiling fans instead. Friendly and helpful staff will help you plan your tour of Victoria.

Good location - right in the heart of Victoria. We were lucky enough to catch the Victoria Day parade and had a great vantage point from the window. The hotel has the potential to be a great little hotel but as things stand I would not book again. The rooms were clean but the dated décor made it feel a... More

The Rooftop Surfclub, one of the most popular features of the the Strathcona Hotel and consequently of the city of Victoria, is a ridiculously overrated club/bar/patio. Sure, the idea of a European style patio on a rooftop in beautiful Victoria is a great idea, but for the place to not have a guest list or a reservation system, and to... More

Sunday nights on the Rooftop patio use to be one of our slowest nights for business. Then approximately six years ago we put together the idea of an industry night based on a Thai full moon party to try and increase business but mainly to give people that work in the Food & Beverage Industry a night for them to... The Strathcona is located centrally, in downtown Victoria, about 5-10 minutes' walk from the Royal BC Museum, the Inner Harbour, and all the neat shops on Government St. There is a 7-11 about a block away (convenient when I needed a snack late at night!), and even though there is a bar downstairs, I did not hear very much noise... Great service at desk. We arrived in a hurry so as to be able to get to an appointment one hour before check in time; and they scrambled to get us a room ready in 10 mins then called a taxi for us Lovely renovated room but still tastefully decorated in historic style. Ditto for bars/restaurant. Food good. Great selection... More

The price and the location are the highest points for the hotel. And in fact, if you just want to pay a night just for sleep (that means no for use a GYM or hot tube or swimming pool, breakfast etc.) is really cheap. The problem for me was that the hotel is too old or the walls are to... More

Booked this lovely Hotel for 2 nights on our eldest's recommendation and he was spot on ! Great location and an easy stroll to most sights and came with a basic breakfast which hit the spot as well. Couldn't believe the price ($65/night) for a double queen. The room was huge but no view but for that price no one... More

The Strathcona hotel is in a great location in Victoria, it is very cheap. It is old and the decor is dated but is fine for a cheap stay, and a great simple breakfast which saves money. Definitely recommend. We stayed here for two nights and it was perfect for sightseeing and dining around Victoria. lots of cheap eating spots... More

I must say that we booked this hotel on a booking site for a "tourist in your own town" type of weekend. I was a little skeptical at first as most downtown hotels in a big city tend to be, to be kind, a little sketchy. We got a great rate and took our chances. We were a little surprised... More
