I lived in Victoria for three years, but often stayed at the James Bay Inn before moving there. It is cute, modest, and reasonably comfortable, although it also has, um, "character," and is an acquired taste. Some of the rooms have no private bath. That isn't necessarily a problem, but you should just be aware. Not so long ago, you... more

My husband and I stayed at James Bay Inn June 16th and 17th Saturday and Sunday night. We took our car on the Coho Ferry from Pt Angeles to Victoria Saturday morning and I did make reservations on line. We arrived about 10:30 AM and went to our hotel only about 4 or 5 blocks from the ferry teminal, our... more

I liked the location! Close to main atractions and sightseeings. Small, quiet and clean hotel. The breakfast was good and staff was helpful. more

This is a beautiful old hotel, the rooms are comfortable and cozy--it is clean, cozy and, best of all a good deal! In one direction we have a bay window overlooking some a beautiful neighborhood of old homes, out of the other window a view of the parlament buildings two blocks away. On the ground floor there is a tacky... more

So the critics say the rooms are small, there's no elevator, and the carpets are musty. But honestly, this is a decent hotel in a quiet location. So are the rooms small? Actually, this is a quirky hotel---renovated several times since 1911, when it was built---and the rooms vary in size. We had one with two beds, and the room... more

I didn't have very high expectations, but I was disappointed. The location is good, and I expected something similar to a Courtyard Marriott. I got something akin to an airport motel. There is no elevator and at least four floors -- note to self, it's not fun carrying your luggage that many flights. You've probably never done it before. The... more

We stayed here for nearly a week in July and thought it was a great little hotel. Yes, the room was rather small, but we do not go on vacation to lounge around in our hotel room! The room and bathroom were spotless, the staff friendly and prompt, and the location really can't be beat. It's close to nearly everything... more

Stayed 4 nights in mid April 2005. This is our second year in a row and we will be back. Terriffic 'non commercial' atmosphere and a landmark in the city. Easy walking distance (10 min) to inner harbour, Empress, Beacon Hill Park, Legislature, Royal Museum and the James Bay neighbourhood; one of the first neighbourhoods in the city. Very inexpensive... more

We had booked for 2 nights, & 2 rooms for ourselves and our daughter and family, but decided to move on after the first night. The rooms were clean, quite adequate, and very near everything. All within walking distance. It's a heritage building, so don't expect any air. Expect to sleep with the windows open - some with no screens and... more
