We stayed with our family and enjoyed the inn. Rooms are a decent size. There are coffee pots and juice available in the lobby. The street is interesting and within easy walking distance of stores, harbour and points of interest. Our daughter in law left her handbag in the bar at night and discovered it had been handed in to the desk.... More

James Bay Inn was comfortable, clean, quiet and in a great location. There is a good restaurant and bar on the ground level. No air conditioning, but the windows open and it was fine on a warm evening.

We wanted a relatively inexpensive, clean, but interesting place near downtown to stay and we got all that. I really liked the: -Antique furniture in Lobby area. -Food in Restaurant. -Easy parking. -Neighborhood houses -2nd floor balcony, although I wish it had faced the parliament -Nice paint job in hallways and room. -History of the inn and photographs of older... Our experience at the James Bay Inn reminded us of our stays in English inns. Courteous service, period furniture in a clean and comfortable room, restaurant/pub on the lower floor, and close to the city center all made for our very enjoyable stay. Our short walk from the Victoria Clipper landing on Belleville St. took us by the legislative buildings... More

I stayed one night at the James Bay as part of a Clipper vacation package(Round trip clipper from Seattle -Victoria, tea at Empress and the James Bay). It is only two blocks from the bay, a nice short walk down Government street. The staff was very attentive and courteous. The lobby had nice period furniture and the rooms were clean... More

Loved the period furniture, huge bedroom, super helpful and friendly staff. It was a pleasure to take the short walk down Government Street to the city centre. Only reason for not being excellent is the absence of a lift; I understand this is not possible due to the age of the historic building and it wasn't a problem for us,... More

Pay no attention to the "2 stars" that this hotel may garner. The location is perfect, only a few blocks south of the bay. The rooms are not fancy, but are very tidy and well-kept. You will be spending most of your time wandering around the shops and markets anyway. The staff was very polite and gracious, offering recommendations for... More

Great location! Cute, quaint old-fashioned décor with character. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Large comfy lobby area. On-site restaurant was good and reasonably priced. Clean room although a bit small. Comfy bed. Shared balcony on our level was nice. Only drawback is no elevator and many steps to go up to the lobby level, then more to rooms. A bit... More

Some will find this 100-year-old hotel charming and quaint, while others will hate the lack of modern amenities such as air conditioning, a decent shower (teeny-tiny with blasts of cold water), pillow top mattress and thick towels. Hair dryer has to be checked out at front desk, as too many at once would blow electricity. Lots of steps (we were... More

Forget about the fancy hotels down town and want to go back into time, this is the place. The hotel is over 100 years old has no lifts and air conditioning but who needs it. The rooms are not fancy but clean. Bathroom has a stand alone shower. Restaurant has a 3 course $20 evening meal special with choices (... More
