This is the second time that we have stayed at this hotel. On this occasion we had guests with us from England and we wanted to spend some time in downtown Victoria while staying nearby without a huge hotel bill. James Bay offers exactly that. The walk to the harbour is only three short blocks. The hotel offers an historical... More

Neat older bldg within easy walking distance of downtown core, park and oceanfront areas. Floors creak but this just adds to the charm. Ask for top floor to prevent the sound of upstairs guests walking across your ceiling, so to speak! There's a pub downstairs but I never went in, mostly as I ate my lunches on Cook street and... Stayed with cousins in a 2 bedroom cottage, just around the corner of the main building. The hardwood floors were gleaming. The quirky cottage did not have the window pulley ropes replaced so it necessitated propping open the windows. There was a loaf pan propping up my bedroom window upon arrival--reminded me of my grandmother's house. We used a toilet... More

This is quite the quaint little inn. The cons: no air conditioning, the double room is small, few amenities- had to ask the desk for an air conditioner. The parking was available but a bit challenging. The pros: great location, incredibly affordable, super nice staff. The inn is clean and the restaurant is good.

We booked the Heritage Cottage for four people for one evening. There was some confusion when booking re how many people could fit into the Heritage Cottage. Came to four, two in a bedroom and two on a sleepercouch in the lounge. Fine for one night but not great for more than a stopover. Despite confirming about the number of... More

There is no air conditioning and we were there when it was pretty hot but cools off at night and day time was not too bad although we don't sit in our hotel during the day. Great restaurant for breakfast, quiet pub - Just a charming place - We rented the least expensive room which was smaller but it's all... More

This was booked for one night thru getaroom.com after internet searching for hotels in Victoria. The worst is carrying bags up the many steps to the high first floor lobby. The room was clean, bed was comfortable. There was a full bath and another sink/mirror in the room. No AC which we would have used this summer. The room was... More

We spent four nights here during a visit to Vancouver Island it is several blocks from the port and we travelled to and from the Island on the Victoria a Clipper. Walking in the area is easy to everything, restaurants, grocery stores, landmarks, we brought Texas level heat with us and the first night was uncomfortable due to daytime sun... More

Best points: 1. location is top notch! 2 blocks from the harbour front and downtown. 2. Room has lots of character (the entire building) 3. Access to a shared bathroom in addition to the ensuite (good for families who need an extra bathroom) 4. Available free parking (very limited) Need to improve: 1. Room is very basic- no airconditioning 2.... More

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I booked this based on the reviews and do not feel this deserves a 4. Floors were creaky and their are only stairs to your room. No AC, and I was there during a heat wave. Bearable but would expect more. Pub downstairs is very convenient and nice. Overall decent, but... More
