The Union Club is a wonderful example of British colonial style, taste and good manners. The location is ideal - close to the harbour , Empress Hotel and Parliament of British Columbia yet quiet and friendly. The staff could not have been better. The early settler history of the province seeps through the walls. Staying here was a treat to... More

If you have ever wondered what is would be like to be a member of a private club in one of the British Colonies, a stay at the Union Club in Victoria is the ticket. The club was originally a "Gentlemen's Club" founded in 1879 (12 years after Canadian Confederation) the building is in the Georgian style of architecture and... More

Union Club is not a place if you want to check your cell phone while eating, or drink your beer without a glass. But if you enjoy costume dramas circa 1920s, and the afternoon tea at the Empress, then you might like UC. Gorgeous building - yes. Lovely panelled public rooms - yes. Hushed atmosphere - yes. Well trained servers... More

The Union Club was once open only to members but now also quietly serves the public as a small hotel and restaurant; a very large and well-appointed reading room adjoins a spacious billiards room on the same floor as the dining room and reception desk. A very nice full breakfast is served in the dining room by an excellent staff... More

We stayed here with my 84 year old mother. First impressions were confusing and complicated! It was gentlemans night, so my mother and I would not be allowed in the bar or restaurant. (But rest assured , there is also a Ladies night.) The dress code. Were my Birkenstock sandals acceptable or not? Eventually it was decided that they were,... More

Hello Helen C, Thank you for taking the time to voice your comments in regards to your most recent stay with us here at The Club. As a private members club (for over 125 years!) you are absolutely correct in saying we definitely have our 'eccentricities' and you are also right in saying that's what makes us unique. We have... We visited the Union Club restaurant for lunch a couple of days ago while visiting on a cruise ship. We are members of a reciprocal club, otherwise I think you need to be a member or hotel guest to dine there. The hotel is beautiful and so well maintained. The staff is so friendly and warm. We had a top... More

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your lunch in the McGregor Dining room, the french onion soup is one of my favorites! Michael is an absolute joy and we are so thrilled to have... More

The Union club is an amazing heritage building situated in downtown Victoria just across the street from the Empress, and the harbor. Staff are great, very friendly and helpful. There is complimentary tea coffee and ice water, and the dining is fun, with a wood fire going on cold and rainy evenings. The rooms are in the process of being... More

If you're looking for a unique place to stay in Victoria, you've found it! I was looking for a reasonably priced place to stay near the Victoria Conference Centre and stumbled upon the Union Club. It definitely has it's old world charm, my favorite was the elevator (which I rode as much as I could). My room was not updated,... More

For my wife and I this was, at the same time, to be a stay of nostalgia in the Canadian city of Victoria but also one of discovery too. And the role The Union Club played was pivotal in making our stay in the city a wonderful memory now. Nearly 100 years ago my family had originally come from Victoria... More

We arrived early and we were greeted with a warm smile. We couldn't check into our room so they were able to store our luggage while we took off sightseeing. Checked in later with no hassles. It's a small hotel so you don't have large lines waiting to get checked in. The place is across from the visitor info and... More
