This Hostel is cheap. Its in an excellent location. The internet connection was not very good, often non existent. It seems as though it hasn't been decorated since it was built 30 years ago, however the friendly house staff do their best to keep it clean. I would recommend for a couple of nights, especially for those seeking private but... more

Oh dear. On 3 key criteria (location, price and free Internet) the GT stacks up well at first glance. However, that needs serious qualification. Though next to charming Gastown on one side, the GT also has Canada's smack district on the other - come or go the wrong way out of this place and you will feel unpleasant. The place... more

I stayed there for a week and overall I had a good experience. I took a short course at UBC and I took bus#4 in front of door every day. And because of the course, I used computer a lot and basiclly the free wireless internet access worked very well. I also met several freinds there and on weekend I... more

I had the misfortune of booking into the Grand Trunk Hostel using Hostel Bookers website, Whilst the hostel is in a great location in Gastown, it is filthy dirty and the quality of the rooms disgraceful. The kitchens and bathrooms are so dirty you run the very real risk of catching something nasty. It is a cheap place to stay... more

My experience was that the manager was actually quite helpful. But the building is really old, the room I stayed at was patched left and right. very old bedding/sheet. The location of the hotel is very close to Gastown and a spaghetti factory restaurant, seems very safe. a couple of street over (Hasting and Main St?) had lot of homeless... more

Being a girl to stay in this cheapest hostel in Vancouver, I found it is a pretty much good experience. Especially when you are in a new city and try to do a lot of things, like applying for a sin number, looking for apartment and looking for a job, I managed to do these things easily there. Got a... more

We stayed at this hostel when we first arrived in Vancouver and if you are wanting a pleasent memory of the city I would NOT recommend you stay here. The place is filthy. The kitchen is smothered in fat and is virtually falling apart. The rooms are small and dirty. Our first room had a small window which opened to... more

$27 for a private single room with cable TV and fridge inside and the free internet access as well, it was a best deal for me. With that little money, I could choose not to sleep with soemone who I didn't know and I actually never had that kind of experience and I will never intend to do that,. Their... more

I emailed them three times and never got a response. This place was dirty. It smelled. There were homeless people standing on the street outside and drunk guys standing across the way and down the street. The bathroom was stained. The managers are horrible. Do NOT go here! more
