Grand Trunk Hostel is in Gastown and Gastown is so cool. Cheap drinks, spagatti factory and lots of souvenir shops and so much to walk and see. And the water front station with the seabus and skytrain is only about 7 minutes walking distance from the hostel. You take skytrain going to metrotown mall ,the biggest shopping mall with ovre... more

Grand Trunk Hostel is very conveniently located in gastown and there are several buses running infront the door, if buses are not your choices, simply walking to everywhere to heart of downtown. The hostel itself is a bit old, but well maintained. I got my own cable TV And fridge and even wireless internet access in my room and I... more

This place is so crappy that you need to close your eyes and nose to get to your room without throwing up... Seriously, for the people who wrote good reviews on this hostel, I don't understand in ANYWAY how you could! The bathroom had stains and rancid everywhere, I wasn't able to take a shower, the kitchen is SO disgusting... more

This Hostel is cheap. Its in an excellent location. The internet connection was not very good, often non existent. It seems as though it hasn't been decorated since it was built 30 years ago, however the friendly house staff do their best to keep it clean. I would recommend for a couple of nights, especially for those seeking private but... more

Oh dear. On 3 key criteria (location, price and free Internet) the GT stacks up well at first glance. However, that needs serious qualification. Though next to charming Gastown on one side, the GT also has Canada's smack district on the other - come or go the wrong way out of this place and you will feel unpleasant. The place... more

I stayed there for a week and overall I had a good experience. I took a short course at UBC and I took bus#4 in front of door every day. And because of the course, I used computer a lot and basiclly the free wireless internet access worked very well. I also met several freinds there and on weekend I... more

I had the misfortune of booking into the Grand Trunk Hostel using Hostel Bookers website, Whilst the hostel is in a great location in Gastown, it is filthy dirty and the quality of the rooms disgraceful. The kitchens and bathrooms are so dirty you run the very real risk of catching something nasty. It is a cheap place to stay... more

My experience was that the manager was actually quite helpful. But the building is really old, the room I stayed at was patched left and right. very old bedding/sheet. The location of the hotel is very close to Gastown and a spaghetti factory restaurant, seems very safe. a couple of street over (Hasting and Main St?) had lot of homeless... more

Being a girl to stay in this cheapest hostel in Vancouver, I found it is a pretty much good experience. Especially when you are in a new city and try to do a lot of things, like applying for a sin number, looking for apartment and looking for a job, I managed to do these things easily there. Got a... more
