We were looking for a quiet place to relax the night before my wife was having surgery. We came back to the Sylvia and it was exactly what we were looking for. Had a lovely dinner in our suite and relaxed.

I love a historic property and I an appreciate the quirky character of a classic original building. The Sylvia however, is a grande dame no more. The once crowning gem apartment building of the early century, converted into a hotel property retains its beauty and significance, surely. The ivy covered brick and the unique neon signage draw you into the cozy... More

I appreciate your opinions, please try and let me explain or comment on your comments. First the key, we only issue one key to each room and ask the guests to drop off the key to control the loss of keys (this system has worked for over 102 years) it is the best way to protect our guests from losing... This is a classic hotel. It is not a classic property that has been given a hipster makeover. If you don't like that look, move on. If you do, this is a great hotel for the price. While the property is slightly faded, I say you overlook that fact, for a simple reason. The location of this property is awesome.... More

Love the title " a great place" Thank-you. You are correct, we are not trying to be "a hipster place" instead we try very hard to remain loyal to our heritage. We are always making upgrades to ensure guests have a safe and enjoyable stay. We have had children stay at the Sylvia for over 102 years with out any... More

We stayed at the Sylvia Hotel last March(2014) for 1 week. It was a great place for many reasons. The location was perfect in that we were close to Stanley Park. It is a very dog friendly hotel. The restaurant was good especially the Sunday brunch. Most importantly the Staff were all very friendly and helpful! The only comment I... More

Get to get your comments about your stay at the Sylvia Hotel, I agree with you, it is a great place to stay. the hotel is over 102 years old and some of the bathrooms are smaller than some hotels but they are clean and have curved shower rods and are like many of the hotels built in that era.... If you like older places full of character, this is an excellent hotel for you. Even if that is not your primary criteria for selecting a hotel, the location, on the beach at English Bay, makes it a destination in itself. As other reviews have noted, the staff is excellent - warm, friendly, and accommodating of all your needs. While... More

We are a heritage site being over 102 years old in one of the best locations in Vancouver, Close to everything and the beach right across the street. Parking is only $15.00 per night (most hotels charge $25-35.00 per night in Vancouver). You are correct, we do not have air conditioning in the rooms, however like most guests mention they... More

I've been staying at the Sylvia intermittently since 1986, and always enjoy it. The hotel has a quirky charm, and the location is perfect. Some of the friendly and welcoming staff have been there since my first visit. Since my last stay they've added an in-room coffee maker with branded glass cups. I hope that by my next stay it... Always happy to read about long time guests returning to the Sylvia. Since 1986 I am sure that you have seem many changes and some of my staff have been here for 20-30 years. We just added coffee makers to the rooms this spring, the coffee cups have been very popular and has forced us to order more to sell... More

We enjoyed our stay at the Sylvia Hotel. After a long day of traveling from the East Coast of the United States the comfortable, home-like atmosphere was a welcome sight. We stayed in the two room suite on the fifth floor which had two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living area with a kitchenette. A great value for the price... More

Great place to be staying to see Vancouver... English Bay, Granville Island, Stanley Park, downtown all in easy reach. Nice quiet neighbourhood, good restaurants all around. Room rather small and a bit tired. Had a hire car and got stung for parking which I hadn't seen in the small print. Staff very helpful.

Thank-you for staying with us. I was happy to read that you appreciated the location and service. Parking charges are normal in Vancouver, we only charge $15.00 per night when the rest of the hotels in the area are $25-36.00 per night so we feel the parking charges are priced fairly for the area. In the future please call the... More

I knew I was going to like it. One two-lane residential street separates it from the English Bay beach, beautiful at sunset and right next to amazing Stanley Park. The hotel is historic and cozy, uses real keys, and the windows open. Room 416 was basically a suite; it doesn't have an ocean front view but you see a fountain... More
