The Sylvia is a charming, quirky, quaint hotel from a bygone era. The furniture appears to be from the 50's, and the elevator has an analog floor indicator (but no elevator operator). The place is also clean and well-maintained, with service that is friendly and very helpful. We sat outside in the lounge for a happy hour drink and snacks... More

We chose the Sylvia because we had spotted it during a previous visit to Vancouver and were impressed by its quiet waterfront location and charming ivy covered exterior. It was perfect for our needs. We had three rooms (for 3 couples of 3 generations) including one corner suite with kitchen and sitting room. The path along the sea wall towards... More

Just the cutest old hotel. Built in 1913, but very updated we enjoyed two queen size beds in a huge room. Comfy beds, nice restaurant, and good price. Clean, easy and perfectly situated on the beach. Wow. And you have to eat a hot dog from Mr. "tube-steak" vendor outside. Phenomenal. We'll definitely be back.

I really liked your Title, "What a dream" love that , after all we do sell sleep. We have so many room types to fit all needs. Some rooms are oversized and others are smaller than some hotel rooms, however they are all spotless and clean and all over 102 years old. Please call the hotel directly to discuss room... More

It was a great three nights in this very old comfortable historic hotel. Smallest rooms are too small for two but for us the next size up was just cozy right for us. Great location across the street from English Bay where you can take a leisurely walk, watch the sunset and take a short walk to a variety of... More

The Sylvia Hotel does have a number of room sizes as we are not your cookie cutter hotel where all the rooms are the same. In fact you could stay with us for two weeks in different rooms and have a different experience depending on what you need for space and if you need a kitchen or would like a... More

Booked this hotel based on location and comments from friends who have stayed here before. Can't beat location on waterfront in downtown Vancouver. Have stayed in all the other high-end Vanc hotels but wanted to try the 'character' of this older hotel. At $240/night, and on the 7th floor, we definitely weren't expecting we'd have a MOUSE in our room!!... More

I am sorry that your first experience at the Sylvia was not what we would have wanted. A mouse in your room is unacceptable and I apologize for that experience. Being close to the beach and having our great vines that cover the building do attract animals and they climb up the vines and get into open windows on occasion... More

Great location right near the seawall on English Bay and within easy walking distance of Stanley Park. Be aware that hotel is not air conditioned and windows are open to hear seagulls, trash pick ups and drunks out on the street. The only problem we had was on Sunday morning when there were plenty of tables available in the hotel... More

It was my second stay at the Sylvia and like before, I had just the best time. The rooms are cozy and the staff is helpful and friendly. The hotel is right in front of English Bay so you cross the street and you're on the beach, something even more magical in the heart of summer.

Most aspects of this hotel we really enjoyed. We had a massive room at a very good price in a perfect location overlooking the beach. Breakfast really good with helpful staff with again great views. The hotel had a lovely feel to it being older with more character. However while most of the staff were helpful, with one lady in... More

This is an ideal hotel for a family reunion. The staff, restaurant, and rooms are all superior. Tthe location couldn't be better; on the beach. Don't change anything! One has to take account that the Sylvia is in a fairly old building and thus will not have some items that one takes for granted; ex. air conditioning but there are... More

'A GREAT HOTEL" thank-you for the rave review and header. The location is one of the reasons that people stay at the Sylvia, the service is why they keep coming back. We do put fans in the room due to the lack of A/C, however, so many guests comment how much they love the fact that they do not have... More

We arrived before check in time so they stored our luggage and we went to the on site restaurant. We had a good lunch and beautiful view of the park and English Bay across the street. Thank-you for your comments about the restaurant and views from the lounge and restaurant an patio of English Bay are fantastic while having a meal.
