I stayed in the Penthouse Room. Though the house is old, the room was clean and very spacious with two separate bedrooms, small bathroom, balcony, small refrigerator and microwave. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets and bathroom linens clean and new. Being on the top floor meant that I was not bothered by the sounds of other guests.... More

Many thanks for your detailed review of our penthouse suite, it is a lovely suite, but I have passed your remarks on to the owner with regard to putting retractable shades on all of our sky lights. We really appreciate your constructive comments. Sincerely Leslie Lewington More

We originally reserved through bookings.com for Cambie House, their sister property. We called to check on something and were asked if we could stay at Douglas House instead which actually was more convenient for us. Everything here worked out fine. The William Room was a fair size and had a private bath (better than our initial booking). The bed was... More

Thank you for the valuable input you gave about your stay with us, at the Douglas Guest House. We are glad you were so amenable to the change in room, as we service a lot of guests from the hospital in the winter months, and they sometimes have to extend their stay without much notice. The bathroom issues have been... More

Our first stay at the Douglas Guest House was just lovely - super room, quiet, comfortable - bit of a nuisance having to walk down the corridor to the toilet and bathroom but we knew that in advance. Fantastic breakfast in a beautiful indoor-outdoor setting - and very friendly and helpful staff. So on our return a few weeks later,... More

I was stung four times over two nights because of a wasp nest in the attic with access to the nest from our room in the penthouse suite. We had a baby in the room. My wife couldn't sleep because of the wasps and fear of our child getting stung. Management chalked it up to a risk of the area;... More

The management and staff deeply apologize for the very unpleasant experience these guests had, this was a very bad year for wasps in the city, and we were forced to call in the pest control people three times for this house, alone. They removed a large nest every time, and every time we were sure the problem had been eradicated.... More

On holiday. Good location. Good breakfast, friendly staff. Rooms are small, wi-fi internet connection is available but comes and goes. Basically our room "e" garden suite was small, had a musty smell and ants all over the floor and under the area rug. There is a issue. Owners name is Paul and he didn't deal with the issue properly. Very... More

There was nothing wrong with the Douglas Guest House but there was no personal touches, either. The lady serving breakfast was really nice and friendly and the owner stopped by once or twice but no interactions. We met other couples at breakfast and shared stories but otherwise it was a room to sleep in.

This place is close to the hospital, which is what I needed and I got a room at short notice. After spending two nights on a cot in my mom's hospital room this place was exactly what I needed! Clean, quiet, cozy. The breakfast was spectacular and super low key and casual. Will be back!!

Already when we arrived, we were surprised to find the house deserted. No one was there to welcome us. There was just an envelope taped to the door with our key and some notes. I am used to a more personal touch, e.g. welcomed by the owner. The room was nice, a large and comfy bed with a lot of cushions.... More

I found Douglas G.H. for some German visitors (staying at my B&B and Guest House in Rossland, BC). They liked it, and now I have spent a week there, while doing business in Vancouver. POSITIVE: It's easy to find (near 12th Ave/Grandview), has off-street parking and it's in an attractive central area near City Hall, VGH, shopping and bus routes.... More

I spent a few nights recently in this Guest House while on a short holiday trip. I stayed in room D which is one of the slightly larger ones in the basement.
