This is a great choice if you are catching ferries anywhere from rupert. The private rooms are nice and clean and the communal areas are welcoming. We also camped in the grounds and made use of the facilities for half the price, which is a great option if you are trying to save the pennies more

A lovely hostel, clean and characterful. Remember it's a heritage building and a hostel, so some rooms are pretty small - see photo - I think this private room (two single beds end to end) is the smallest, but the bed was comfy and shared bath was clean with plenty of hot water. This hostel is clean and friendly, and... more

We just stayed one night, but this little hostel has a lot going for it - central location, clean rooms, friendly staff and a "can do" attitude. They managed to get us a private room with a double bed, despite being completely full. Free internet, nice common area, book exchange, etc. All the things a good hostel should have at... more

My wife, 12-year-old daughter and I spent a few days in Prince Rupert at the Pioneer Hostel. Although it's in a heritage building, it's very clean and functional. There's a very friendly ambience to this small place. It's located close to the waterfront and accessible to everything. They even picked us up at the ferry terminal, and helped us arrange... more

Stayed here for 1 night between train and ferry trips. Close to downtown and shops. Renovated character property with friendly owner Christy. Rooms were alright but the beds small and so was the room. Cosy lounge area but small kitchen. There were 3 bathrooms but still a slight wait especially in the morning. Free internet and VIA Rail pick up.... more

I have stayed at the Pioneer for the past two summers as I was conducting work in the area. But, I have also traveled extensively around the world and stayed at MANY hostels. I can honestly say that this one is one of the best I have ever seen! The beds are so comfy, I think I sleep better here... more

Having read a previous review on Tripadvisor I booked the Pioneer. arriving late in the day we didn't need a lot of extra's. The Pioneer was a great place, unpretentious, like arriving at a relatives house. Small but clean rooms and bathrooms it felt very comfortable. I travelled with my 73yr old mother who was delighted to talk to younger... more

We stayed in Prince Rupert for one night after taking the ferry from Port Hardy. As the ferry arrived after midnight, and we only wanted a place to sleep, we were looking for a cheap, no frills place to stay for one night, so we chose the Pioneer Hostel, the only hostel I could find in Prince Rupert, and were... more
