My partner and I stayed in a private room. It was simple, clean and what is expected at a hostel. But the location is in the heart of old downtown Nanaimo close to coffee shops, restaurants, bookstores, clothing stores, the wharf, parks, etc. Kitchen is clean and friendly. Staff are always available and helpful. We have stayed there once in... More

We booked in late had a warm welcome instructions were clear students got settled in with ease. Nice large sitting kitchen area, clean and felt safe. Advantage with a school group each student had their own bed and the females were on one floor and the males on another floor. Good pizza place down the street for a snack.

I stayed at the Painted Turtle for a night. The location is great : close to the waterfront, close to bars/pubs, close to Thriftyfood, Starbucks, Fresh slices etc... The hostel is very clean and casual. The prices are reasonable. The staff was very friendly and it never felt like there was a barrier between me and the front-desk agent, like... More

Really appreciated the easy bike storage right in downtown Nanaimo. Close to lots of great food. All the front desk staff were friendly, kind and helpful. The private room we stayed in was clean and bed comfortable.

This is the best hostel I have stayed at in a loooong time. I have travelled the world, and worked in a hostel for many years in the '90's, and this hostel is the real deal. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Super clean, and centrally located. Thank you, Painted Turtle!

We picked this hotel based on location and price. The location turned out to be great for our purpose, sightseeing and restaurants in Gastown, Chinatown, Yaletown and boat trip to Granville Island. The hotel is located on an edgy block but soon overcame that. The entire staff was delightful.

It was over $100 dollars for a tiny room with no air conditioning, right beside a noisy street. Pillows so large your neck feels like it will snap making them unusable. For $100 dollars you might think they would throw in some shampoo or soap to use in the tiny public showers. Nope that's an additional $5. Staff were friendly... More

we are a family of three, two adults Nd late teen child. This was an excellent place for us to stay in one of the family rooms. Rooms were very clean, well maintained, and seemed to have been recently decorated and painted. The kitchen was clean, and the guests seemed to take their guidance from that and maintained it daily,... More

The staff is very accommodating and helpful. They take time to meet your needs and are located in a quaint town. The beds are comfortable and the location is great if you need to catch the BC Ferries.

It's impossible to beat the price of this little guest house located blocks away from the Harbour, and right in the heart of the old downtown district! I've stayed here a number of times before, and some rooms are great, others are a little stuffy, but the staff is always friendly and helpful! All in all it's a great bang... More
