My sisters and I stayed here in September 2011 for two nights. At first we were put off by Saya, the lady who runs the hotel. She seemed unfriendly and uptight and we instantly felt unwelcome. The hotel is decorated beautifully and Sayas costumes are amazing. She sews them herself. You really do get the feeling of being transported back... More

It is true that when the ladies arrived there was a protracted moment of confusion which led to awkwardness, and I didn’t recover the moment quickly enough. For this I felt terrible, but we got on well despite our false start. It is always my intention to make every guest feel welcome and hope that their stay at the St.... More

On my first visit to Barkerville I promised myself a return trip of more than one day. Barkerville is a jewel of a preserved town with a seasonal population of dedicated historians who take on roles from clergymen to bakers. We stayed in the St George Hotel and were transported back in time. The landlady, Saya, is straight from the... More

We had the best time in Barkerville. The personal attention from owner and staff made it a special stay. Clean, comfy beds, great upstairs veranda overlooking Main St, and a most excellent breakfast. our eleven year old son really enjoyed the stay, other than the ghosts. Once in a lifetime experience, but we hope to go back. More

I agree with all the other reviews - the St. George Hotel is fantastic. It was so convenient to stay right in Barkerville and the hotel itself is very nice. However, we stayed there with our two children (aged 8 and 10), and I would not recommend the St. George for young families. The owner, Saya, is extremely nice and... More

For the benefit of parents considering a stay at the St. George: it should be noted that the hotel is filled with antiques which are breakable and cannot easily be replaced. I encourage you to be confident that your children can feel comfortable in this environment. Every year we entertain many children with our treasure chest of traditional wooden toys,... More

At one level, this can be described as a small, modest guest house from another age, with added modern plumbing. But that would be disingenuous. Barkerville is a remarkable place, well worth the hundred-mile round trip from the nearest (and only) main road in the area, and the USP that this hotel can offer is the ability to have Barkerville... I arrived at Barkerville, to deliver a piece of BC's history, thus fulfilling a dead man's last request. I arrived much later than originally planned, when I had foreseen a day long trip, up and back, from Vancouver. It was now after dark, too late to turn the artifact over to Barkervilles curator, but too early to try and catch... More

Despite living in BC my entire life, I have never been to Barkerville and have only heard stories about the town from family and friends. When I discovered that there were accomodations right in Barkerville, I decided to take a chance. The St. George Hotel was quite an experience. It is as authentic as you can get and still remain... We booked for one night, and stayed for 2. St. George Hotel , laid back, employees fun to be around. I would say they love their jobs. The food was excellent, the rooms clean and washrooms spotless. I am sure the ghost will never leave this place...if there is one? It rained and the mud and water ran down the... More

We had changed our plans in order to stay at The George Hotel, Barkerville as they were already fully booked for the dates we originally wanted. It also required us to drive over 900km across from Prince Rupert in one day to make it but it was completely worth it. The hotel looks like an original set from a John... More
