My wife and I are professional photographers. We visited Tonquin Valley in mid-September to record these dramatic peaks with autumn color. We arrived just after the peaks received their first snow. The results exceeded our wildest dreams. Kable and Sara are outstanding hosts and made our visit even more enjoyable. They were able to make our horseback ride in and... More

My friend has made this trip several times and I was finally able to join. We departed for the valley on September 15. The weather was a bit cloudy but no rain! The next three days were absolutely beautiful. Blue skies and amazing scenery! Cabel and Sara and their team are amazing. I felt safe, secure, well-nourished (food and soul),... More

Extraordinary, is how I describe our 5 day horse trip into the Tonquin Valley Backcountry Lodge in Jasper National Park. I had no horse back riding experience and was a bit nervous about this holiday but right from my initial email contact with Sara, I knew this adventure would be special and fun. The scenery is spectacular; the horses were... More

My brother and I (both "flat-landers") hiked the 23 km into the spectacular Tonquin Valley on a rainy July afternoon. The Ramparts were shrouded in clouds on that day, but for the rest of our 3-day stay they were mostly bathed in sunlight--and the center of our attention. What a stunning place this is; Jasper National Park at its finest!... More

If you are going to do one activity while in Jasper National Park, then this is it! We were fortunate enough to ride into this amazing valley in July. We loved the authenticity of this special place. Wonderful people and stunning scenery. A once in a lifetime experience! Special thanks to Cabel and Sara for their wonderful hospitality. If you... More

Our third time riding into the Tonquin was just as spectacular as the first. The sturdy and well-conditioned horses are a joy to ride as you pass through various landscapes to cross a pass into this hidden gem of a valley. Even the grizzlies were mellow. A veteran outfitter, Kable always made us feel safe in this wild backcountry. While... More

6 ladies on a hiking trip into Tonquin Valley. After a hard days hiking, to be greeted by Cable and Sara was indeed a pleasure. I don't know if you will be lucky enough to have a turkey dinner when you get there, but I am sure whatever awaits will be worth the trip.! And the row across the lake... More

I have been coming to Kable and Sarah's (Glorias too) lodge for the better part of a decade, always on skis in the winter. It is always one of the highlights of our year for myself, my kids and the many people we have helped introduce to this beautiful spot. There are not many places this remote that one can... More

We have visited this location 3 times, twice on owners horses and once on foot. The Lodge is very Rustic. Do not expect a 5 Star Hotel. This is an Authenic Backcountry Packers Lodge. The adventurer is travelling through big country, that allows no margin for errors in trip planning. Safety and Leave no Trace are those things the owners... More

First of all, the Tonquin Vally Backcountry Lodge isn't what I would normally call a hotel. You don't check in, get a room key, or have your bed turned down with chocolates on the pillows every night by bellboys expecting tips. I think that defining it as a hotel on this website could lead to a false sense of expectation... More
