Be prepare to be in the wilderness, and to have such a wonderful time ! The spirit of this place is unbelievable : I like it so much I wish I could have spent more time here... OK, it was few years ago so maybe the managers changed, but this kind of hostel seems a very good idea to me... More

We stayed here as part of a group tour, we were only there for an afternoon and night before leaving the next morning, but what little time we had there was really special. You do feel as though you are out in the wilderness (well, you kind of are,, but you can still hear the traffic if you listen). Sure... More

we've been coming to this hostel in the last couple years because we love the location of this place and the living area is one of the cosiest I have experienced while hostelling. Our last visit was a huge disappointment though.. We didn't feel all that welcome, the new manager seemed cold and distant, and considered it is all common... More

The rooms are great for the price but if you don't like outdoor toilets and poor excuses for a shower then it probably isn't for you. The managers were absolutely awful, patronising and for the most part seemed to show dislike towards us. We felt unwelcome and unable to enter the common room without feeling like we shouldn't be there.... More

We stayed in this hostel for one night only while on our trip back to Banff from Jasper. We were on a bus trip with a group of tourists. We liked this hostel as it provided a taste of wilderness although with some trace of civilization in what looked like deep forest. It was snowing in the evening when we... More

I think that recent reviews will give you a good idea of this hostel, and I agree with them. My wife and I chose it partly because you can book a private room, and, at our age (60+) we wanted a break from dorm living. The manager who was there on our visit was especially welcoming, and the hostel meet... More

We stayed one night as a group of 10 people at this hostel because we were not able to book another night at HI Jasper. Well, this is actually much better! The location is great, surrounded by wilderness. The host is very welcoming and makes you immediately feel like at home. We had a cabin by ourselves and even if... More

I stayed here during a tour of the Canadian Rockies and had an awful experience with the member of staff who was there at the time. We arrived pretty late and I was very tired from being on the bus all day. We were welcomed by a man who was incredibly patronizing. He explained to us how the hostel worked,... More

HI Athabasca is set right in the heart of the woods. There is no running water, you have to pump water from the well and there are no indoor toilets, only lovely out-houses!! Like I said, it's not fir everyone but if you want a taste of simple living then I can't recommend it highly enough

HI Athabasca falls was a truely unique place to stay. Once you get past the drop toilets approx 100 m away from the cabins and making the trek out to them in the middle of the night past all the possibly hungry wildlife, the place is a unique way to experience the canadian outdoors. The lack of running water does... More
