The Fairmont Macdonald in Edmonton is a classic hotel from the former CP family of grand hotels. I've been around long enough to recall the era of the hotel's restoration and reopening, it has the classic styling and charm of a bygone era, but provides contemporary comfort. The service was excellent and boasts the friendliest concierge in Canada - see... More

Back in the days when most travel was done by iron horse a rivalry sprang up between Canadian Pacific Railway and the forerunner to the CNR, the Grand Trunk Railway to see which company could build the largest and most architecturally beautiful hotels to serve their customers. CPR gave us Banff Springs, Chateau Frontenac, The Empress and the Royal York... More

We live in Edmonton but were given a chance to spend the night downtown at hotel Macdonald. The location is phenomenal and we appreciated the beautiful views and walks through the river valley. Rooms are basic but with a super comfortable bed! The pool and fitness center were great, well maintained and new equipment. Service from the moment we checked... More

From the minute I drove into the city, I could see this legendary hotel perched upon the side of the hill, I knew I was in for a treat. The lobby opens up to the Confederate Room which has the absolute best views of the city from its massive veranda. I ate breakfast out of the terrace both days and... More

We enjoyed our weekend at the Fairmont Macdonald Edmonton. Loved the high ceilings, tall windows and wood panelled lobby areas. Our room was large and comfortable, although the bed was a bit too soft for my taste, and the bathroom could use an update. The food quality and views of the river valley more than make up for any shortcomings.... More

Had a great stay at Hotel Macdonald! the hotel is beautiful and the views are amazing. We had some good food there as well. Within a few blocks of City Hall, office towers and shops. I would definitely stay there again.

There are no 5* hotels in Edmonton, the only one that supposedly comes close is the Fairmont. Checked it out on NYE to test it out, as most other hotels in Edmonton are quite embarrassing. The hotel is extremely average. Rooms are very dated, amenities are not at all luxurious and service is cold. Food is mediocre for outrageous prices.... More

When I moved to Edmonton, I chose to stay at the Hotel Macdonald to get myself situated before taking posession of my downtown apartment. That stay did not disappoint, and so it was no question in my mind to stay there when returning to the city for a visit. The Mac is truly a beautiful castle crowning the hills of... More

Ok the area of town is not the best and your car is not safe in the Parkade but once you manage to get inside it can not be beat. I can Imagine staying in hotels like this in the early 20 th century if you had lots of money. The river valley view is stunning service is first class... More

My husband surprised me with a stay at the Hotel Mac for my birthday. We had a spacious one-bedroom suite. The customer service was exceptional - we were treated like royalty for the whole weekend and they were able to accommodate us for early check in. There was even a plate of chocolates with a birthday greeting and personalized card... More
