My family (with a 6 years old and a 9 years old) just came back from Banff. We stayed at Douglas Fir for 2 nights. Kids love it!!! The water slide was a hit for my 9 years old and the indoor playground was very big and fun for both of them. We booked a one bedroom condo (1 master... More

We stayed at the Douglas Fir in June 2007. I was looking forward to the Chalet with separate rooms for my sons. There was 3 rooms and a couch. I should have known right from entering the building, the smell of smoke was everywhere. Then we started a fire in the wood fireplace later that evening, smoke came into the... More

We stayed here for 7 nights on a family vacation - 2 children, aged 3 and 1. The key reason for the grading is that it is ideal for families. Personally, for a week I really don't want to be stuck in a single room + bathroom with children, and having a kitchen gives you the extra flexibility. We stayed in... More

We stayed in a 2-level condo at the Douglas Fir, and it worked quite well for our group of 4. The upper level has 2 beds and there is a downstairs bedroom, and 1 1/2 baths. There is a wood-burning fireplace (wood provided) and small kitchen. The pools are nice, though the waterslides were not operative during part of our... More

I stayed here for a week, attracted by the kitchens in the units. My stay was comfortable, but having no wireless internet (despite what is advertised) was not great. The hotel feels and looks dated, and is ideal for families on a budget. While I have stayed in worse places, I have stayed in better hotels for the money.

Chalet style accomodation. The rooms were clean and tidy and functional, maybe an update is now required but it didn't affect our stay. Watch out for 'Static Electricity!' My Wife got a shock every time she touched something metal and at first we thought the wiring was 'dodgy' but we soon learned that the extra 'dry' mountain air help create... More

We chose to stay at the Douglas Fir based on recommendations from the trip advisor forum. Just as others have said, the resort is a bit dated, however, we found it to be very clean. Alot for kids to do there - waterslides and good size play area. The resort is up a little ways from the town and has... More

Every year for Spring break week, we come to Banff to ski and snowboard with our two sons (who are now 19 & 21). Some years we have brought a couple of their friends. We always get the one-bedroom loft. It is ideal because the kids are upstairs (two queen beds) and have their own 1/2 bath. So their stuff... More

My wife, son and I stayed at the Douglas Fir Resort during the second week of Feburary, 2007. Our one bedroom condo was clean, and well appointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The ski shuttle bus picks across the street, it is only a 10 minute walk downtown, if you find the stairs to Banff Ave. I recommend... More

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2007

We stayed at Douglas Fir Resort for two nights in early February 2007. When I reserved the room, I knew that we would likely arrive in Banff at around 2 p.m., so I requested an early check-in. (Check-in time is 4 p.m.) The reservations clerk said that she couldn't guarantee that, but she would make a note and try to... More
