Great place to stay for a family trip to Banff. Quiet location, good sized rooms, well-appointed kitchen, wood burning fireplace, waterslides, play area, arcade...all for an extremely reasonable price. We have stayed here in all seaons and have NEVER been disappointed. The interior is a bit dated, but you can't beat the overall experience.

Stayed here over Christmas with my husband's family. We had great service and the hotel has wonderful amenities for children. Location: It was a little hard to find for first-timers like us. Follow the Tunnel Mountain signs (the hotel is actually ON the mountain) and you should be fine. Rooms: Although a little dated (think 80s), the chalets are very,... More

We had an A-frame lodge, which was a reasonably sized chalet with separate upstairs bedroom and bathroom. Very old and dated; also quite dark; but it was fine. Kitchen was certainly useful. For skiing you can get a bus just outside. However, you then have to change at Mount Royal further down the road and this can actually start to... More

The reviews I read before arriving had me a little aprehensive. No need to be worried, this was a lovely resort with well appointed lodges (ok maybe a little bit dated but perfectly decent). The resort is some distance outside of town (so it's pretty quiet) but there is a regular and free bus service into the centre and the... More

I stayed at this resort with my sister and her two kids and we had a great time! The resort had a waterslide and a jungle gym, which the kids loved. Our room was large and roomy with a kitchenette and a fireplace. We ended up using the fireplace to cook hot dogs and roast marshmallows. We were so warm... More

Every year my family goes away for Christmas, and usually stay at the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis. This year, for reasons that are far too long to describe, we cancelled our reservation there and booked in at the Douglas Fir after stumbling upon it on the internet. We booked here for several reasons, the two biggest being I was travelling... More

This hotel is on Tunnel Mountain Rd which is away from the busy banff ave. We liked this because it was quiet with adequate underground parking and very close to banff ave. Easy access to the town via free bus rides, driving, or taxi. We were in Banff on a ski trip and all the major ski areas picked up... More

We stayed at the Douglas Fir Resort on the August 2009 long weekend. We found the rooms dated but clean and very functional. The hotel itself is a bit of a maze. It wasn't until the second day that we realized there are two separate pools...the waterslide pool and a heated indoor standard pool. Our kids loved the waterslides and... More

I recently stayed at the Douglas Fir with my husband and 2 young children aged 1 and 3. I fear hotel stays, as it is difficult to stay in a room and be able to put the kids to bed on schedule and still have fun myself. The Douglas Fir is the BEST Family Friendly resort. The rooms are perfect,... More

We stayed at Douglas Fir Resort this past July for a quick, weekend getaway. Our daughter is 5 and we chose this location based on her because it looked fun and had lots to do for little ones! We were not disappointed! We stayed in a basic room which had everything one would need, including a kitchenette. The room was... More
