After battling the huge crowds in Banff, Shadow Lake Lodge was a welcome retreat. I would recommend staying for two nights so you can hike the area. Husband and son went fishing and caught a fish on Shadow Lake. Everyone loved the trip. Expensive, yes but not when you consider the staff is on 24/7 when they work and all... More

We spent two nights and wished we were there longer. The hike in is long and certainly not as scenic as others. However, for flatlanders as ourselves, there is still plenty to enjoy on the hike in. The hike up Gibbons Pass while staying there allowed us to enjoy the colors even in the rain. The staff was friendly and... More

Unique backcountry experience. Long and easy to get to. Comfortable lodging. Wonderful hospitality. Amazing food. Access to spectacular hikes and views. Recommend 2-3 nights for further exploring in the area.

There is a reason this is ranked number 1!! We spent 2 nights at the lodge and I wish I could live there! The service, food, lodging and the breathtaking beauty of the mountains made this a trip of a lifetime! We hope to return year after year until we are unable to make the hike in.

Hiked 7 hours from Hwy 93 over Gibbon Pass to Shadow Lake Lodge. This was the hard way in rather than the easier hike along Redearth River. Was so glad to see the Lodge, take a hot shower, and enjoy their afternoon tea! Mia and the staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Such a quiet refuge from... More

We just returned from spending 2 nights at Shadow Lake Lodge and the experience there is pretty much as others have stated. Our group consisted of my husband, myself and our 18 year old son. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin and were very pleased to discover that both beds were queen sized and the cabin was a very... More

We spent two nights at the lodge in July. We feel so lucky! We can't recommend this place strongly enough. I wish we could've spent three nights instead of two. I also wish we could have come and gone via different routes. We came and went via Redearth Creek Trail. We enjoyed the hike in, but would've liked to return... More

We spent two nights at the lodge and as the other reviewers, we loved it! We rented bikes in Banff, biked up the first 7.5 miles and hiked in the last 1.5 miles (porcupines didn't eat our tires either). The first 1/2 mile wasn't bad, but here were some fairly steep portions with lots of rocks, so at one point... More

My wife and stayed at the lodge for three nights in July. It was everything and more than we expected. The hike in was an easy, steady grade on an old fire road. The last three kilometres are steeper with more roots and rocks. When you reach the lodge it's like an oasis of comfort in the backcountry without the... More
