Just back from 2 nights at Shadow Lake. Have been to a number of other lodges in the Canadian Rockies, including Num ti Jah, Emerald Lake, etc. and SL immediately became our favourite. 3 reasons. 1. The isolation. Once you get into Banff/Jasper/Yoho etc the views are all spectacular and while Num ti Jah or Emerald Lake may be a... More

Our family of four spent four days at Shadow Lake Lodge. It's the beauty, peacefulness and activity of backpacking, yet, you have delicious meals and afternoon tea prepared for you and you get to sleep in beautiful cabins with cozy down comforters. After dinner, we enjoyed talking to other hikers and playing games by the fire in the lodge. What... More

This was a tough place to review. We kept trying to understand why people would pay so much money to stay here. We really enjoyed our stay but nothing about the place justified the extreme cost. One phrase in a promo piece suggested they are trying to recreate a 1928 experience for the guests. They succeed on some fronts so... More

This was our third visit to this back country lodge in the Canadian Rockies and it is a superlative destination if you can hike 12 kilometres with an elevation gain of about 400 metres - the easiest way into the lodge. But there are other tougher hikes into the lodge if that suits your fancy. The scenery and hikes in... More

This is a marvellous lodge that makes the park's backcountry accessible to seniors like us who are past the ability to backcountry hike and camp but still wish to have long beautiful hikes. Shadow Lake Lodge is surprisingly luxurious with beautiful individual cabins for guests. The food was fresh, very well prepared and more was offered than we could ever... More

Tucked onto the edge of a marshy meadow in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Shadow Lake Lodge strikes a perfect balance between a wilderness experience and the amenities of civilization. We met many great people from all over the world on the trail and in camp, and what struck me was the fact that many of the lodge guests... More

A great experience! We hiked about 4 hours to get to the lodge away from cell service and wifi. The place is comfortable and welcoming. There is still hot water, showers, lights, heat, and a comfortable bed. The food is amazing and the people are wonderful. Thank you Alison! We hiked around the lake and enjoyed the natural beauty. At... More

One of the best experiences I've ever had - and that is what this place is. This is not a hotel - this is a backcountry experience worthy of every penny you spend to stay there. The staff are so nice, the food is nothing short of incredible, the private cabins are quaint and well appointed, and the hiking in... More

This is a back country lodge. We took an 11 and 15 year old. We hiked in from Red Earth. It took 3.5 hours - easy for the first 2.5 hours and more strenuous the last leg of the hike (but still easy). The accommodations are very sparse and basic - but exceptionally clean. Rooms don't have water and there... More

First time visiting the Lodge in winter. I ski up Redearth Creek to the Warden's cabin frequently (11 kms one way) but had never gone in the last 2.4 kms to spend time at the Lodge in winter. There is a big hill which many walk carrying their skis that first km. towards the lodge but then just heavenly trail... More
