The food was excellent but was it worth the wait? When we arrived it was clear they had overbooked. We were seated and other diners told us they had been waiting an hour for their food. We had booked for 8pm, we were given a menu at 8.20pm and recieved our food at 9.20pm. Not really acceptable. Even though the... More

We popped in this afternoon (3.30pm Saturday), post dog walk for some lunch with our six year old. Told because we have a child we were to sit in one corner on one of three tables...which were all full. Other tables free elsewhere, and our dog was able to sit wherever suited him, but not the child. What a shambles... More

Good all round choice of real ales, some brewed on the premises,(pity it could not be cheaper, due to this) good food, and good hard working staff, who are knowledgeable of the beers they sell. Car park is in urgent need of repair, it is potholed and uneven, and not well lit at night, and quite a challenge, in daylight... More

Booked a private dining room. Very Good Carvery [ just for us ]. Many and varied vegetables...some served alongside the meat ; some self-service. I was glad i didn't choose stuffed mushroom to start off with. It was literally one small mushroom! Instead the Soup Tureen was absolutely excellent : hot and flavoursome soup, with warm bread. Not an overstaffed... More

We visited in mid December and chose off of the Christmas menu, the stuffed mushroom was ok but the turkey dinner was awful, the turkey was dry and tasted as though it had been cooked a couple of days ago, the veg was fresh if very under cooked, new potatoes in skins were very hard (to be honest I think... The Old Poets' Corner has a lovely bar area and a good selection of beers. The one waitress on duty was lovely, altho' overworked. That's the good stuff out of the way. On the day we visited, having - as a party of eleven - pre-ordered our meals some weeks previously, we found that: the staff had not acted on... More

Lovely local pub - I expected it to have good beer but a slightly cliquey local vibe after reading some other reviews. Fortunately I was wrong! We were warmly welcomed, had great local beer and the food was brilliant too. We would definitely return if we return to the area.

I make this review as a visit to a country pub... to spend an hour or two with a drink. I cannot give any opinion on the accommodation. We regularly call in 'The old poets corner'.. following a shopping trip around Chesterfield. The pub is always warm and welcoming with roaring log fires during cold evenings, with a good friendly... Just having returned from the Old Poets Corner again,my daughter and I were there for a couple of nights, having stayed there on previous occasions. We were not disappointed, very friendly pub, excellent host, great meals, roaring log fires what more could you ask for? The chip buttees served after the quiz night was a bonus. Hope to return again in the future
