I've been here many a time for pub quizzes, food and over night stays and I have never had reason to regret anything( barring to much real ale). The menu is great and the food is above expectations. The range of real Ales beats most pubs and it's acoustic nights are welcoming. The quiz is fun and open to all... More

Visited on a Sunday night - very busy. The food was just average. I chose haddock and chips. the batter had a burnt taste to it. My husband chose a curry which was tomato based and peppery but no spices could be identified. I had a coke to drink but left it as tasted quite soapy. On a positive side,... More

Stayed B&B for two nights. Room size was small, and water pressure in shower was low. Late drinkers, musicians and quiz master/team should learn to depart quietly in the early hours! Friendly caring staff. Wonderful food; reasonable prices and big portions. Fantastic range of real ales. The best breakfast I have had anywhere. Very dog friendly.

Second lunchtime visit to the Old Poets' Corner this time for Sunday lunch. We were a party of 10 and all opted for the Carvery. The meats all looked very well cooked, offering a choice of Beef, Pork and Turkey. Each were accompanied with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnips and leek bake. You then had a self serve choice of... More

We came here to eat after it was recommended to us by people where we were staying in Chesterfield. I'm very glad we did - it was fantastic! There is a small car park round the back where there is also some outdoor seating. We sat in the restaurant area of the bar. The choice of real ales and ciders... More

My partner and I stayed at the Poets last weekend, the room was comfortable and clean with fresh towels each day. The food was very good, but each time we ate there we failed to finish the main course as there was far too much and I think the management is perhaps missing a trick here as we would probably... A spur of the moment.been planning to visit for a while. Not disappointed. A really nice place with a great atmosphere. Superb food..the mix grill is not for the faint hearted. Perfect beer..an excellent ambassador for real ale. Excellent cider choice. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Definitely will be going back and staying over.

A friend and I stopped for two nights; I cannot speak too highly of the pub, it is fantastic. The room was excellent and we got a discount as CAMRA members. The food is superb and the beer cannot be bettered, especially that brewed just across the back yard of the pub! We'll certainly be stopping there again (we were... More

We have been coming to the Poets for years when in the area and it never disappoints. I had the obligatory 10oz Fish and Chips and my wife had the chilly then sticky toffee pudding all of which were faultless. Given the 10 ales on tap I took advantage of the beer tapas to get my aim before getting stuck... More

Another trip to the Poets and another great weekend. Fabulous walking routes from right outside the door giving a range of different types of walk, including great views and beautiful countryside. The ale selection was perfect again, with a range of strengths and styles and all in great condition. Tried a couple of ciders as well, which were also excellent.... More
