The Poets at Ashover it has to be said is one of the best pubs around. Excellent range of well kept beers, their own brewery (Poets Tipple - superb!), ciders and whisky's. Not the cheapest pint you'll buy but then you have to accept its popularity justifies the price. The meat and potato pie with chips mushy peas and chips... More

Stayed here for a weekend with friends and were not disappointed - all enjoyed the stay & we are booked in for next year. Very dog friendly, bust with a great selection of ales (including from the onsite brewery) - good menu & very friendly staff.

This is our second time staying at the Old Poets and we stayed in the Kipling room this time and the Byron last time. Both rooms face the front and look straight up Church Street but don't worry about traffic noise. Having been born and raised in Ashover but not living there for 25+ years, I love coming back to... Visited this pub just for a drink one Friday early evening. The atmosphere was great and you feel like you've been transported back in time. Seems like it is a busy place with lots of activities going on. Great for dog lovers but my husband is allergic so didn't linger too long. Also it smelt very smoky from the fire.... More

My husband had beef stew and I had liver and onions. The liver was very tender but one piece was cold for some reason. The beef stew was well cooked but a little dry. Normally a stew has liquid, but this was better than a stew that is so runny it goes everywhere. We shall go again as we did... More

Great real Ales and service. The staff were friendly and the plum ale smelt of prunes and tasted scrummy. Very very average roast dinner sadly as it looked delicious but rather have cooked my own which is nicer.....

One of our party had a mixed grill & reported that it was absolutely rubbish, cooked to death. All the meat really tough like shoe leather, chips had obviously been warmed up & for the price of £18.00 would have expected meal to be freshly cooked. Surroundings pleasant x nice ambiance

We stayed in the Byron room which was fine, if a little on the small side. When we were there we couldn't access wifi in the room or the bar. My wife's food was fine, although mine was not. The beers and ciders were fantastic and kept very well and it was no problem trying samples. Service was excellent and... More

My wife and I love this place. We try and get there at least once a year and have been going back about five years. Stayed here over the May Bank Holiday weekend this year and took some friends who have also fallen in love with it. Extremely dog friendly, you'll be tripping over them if you're not careful! Selection... More
