I, with friends, turned up here after walking, 3 times within a month to find the place closed at lunch-time. This, despite a large sign outside saying it was open every day from 12 noon. Whatever the reason for closure, they couldn't be bothered to put a sign at the entrance to the car-park to say it was closed. On... More

My husband and I were booked in for a night in July by Late Rooms. Unfortunately there was no record of the booking and no accommodation available. The barman recommended the Twing Oaks near by which was very nice.

Good Food, Mattress fine, shower good and piece and quiet. However although a great location the bedroom (5) lacked any sort of a view. I was not expecting the Sydney Opera House or The Hanging Gardens of Babylon or Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...? however no view out of either facing window. And then we get to the breakfast. Tasted... More

The food is really excellent but the bedrooms could be so much better with a little excellent care and attention. Only had one bedside light, no stool for the dressing table and the carpet could do with a clean. There was no hot water from the tap (luckily the shower was electric) and no heating. Would not have been so... More

We stayed here for two nights while visiting with family locally. The staff were very attentive and went out of their way to be helpful and thoughtful. The rooms are tastefully decorated, cosy, clean and quiet. Breakfast was fantastic each morning and we ate in the restaurant on one of the nights - the food was excellent, would have loved... More

Warm and welcoming with friendly staff and good service. Casque mark CAMRA pub so good beers. I know the 2 for £10 is obviously limited but have had better in other pubs. The steak and ale pie was tasty but to bulk it out with minced beef and potatoes is not good - should have been named meat and potato... More

Thought I would try the Shoulder again as the food last time was very good, but the service a bit " lacking" ? This time they got everything right ! Was quiet so maybe that helped with the service, but it was friendly, attentive and very efficient throughout. The meal was superb, smoked partridge breast starter and the poached salmon... More

We were traveling back to London and rather than the usual service stations we decided to try a pub near Hardwick Hall, our mid-way point. We stumbled upon The Shoulder and being a Sunday asked for their roast. The staff were incredibly friendly and the service fast, but not pushy. We probably didn't need the complimentary bread and oil, but... More
