We had a great stay here. The owners are really friendly and helpful, and the hostel meals are brilliant value. We had one dinner, which was 3 courses and tasty homemade food. Dinner is $20pp and breakfast is $7.50 continental / $13 fry up (we didn't have either). The main hostel building has a good kitchen, lounge, piano room, and... More

Stayed recently on a trip across to the west coast. The staff were really welcoming and the accommodation was clean and well presented. Great for an overnighter if your travelling across to the coast or would most probably be great for a longer stopover if that was your plan.

Stayed on a Thursday before the start of the Cricket World Cup. This was the only place available outside of Christchurch. We're glad it was. A bit worn but very comfortable, a big bed a couple of leather armchairs and a reasonable kitchen. This hotel is a backpackers but was better than many other motels we stayed at in NZ.

Its tttthe chipest place in springfieldto rent climbing gear! But instead of getting the normal horrible hired shoes we got the new nitro la sportiva (they have maybe 7-8 pairs) and a new crash-pad (mat). They rent also guidebooks for Castle hill. And you can return the gear late after a long day of bouldering cuase they are a hostel... More

Charming venue spotlessly clean great facilities Nice hosts Pet friendly Quirky and Kiwi place, with real charm. It a faceless "factory" hostel. It's on the highway but we didn't notice much traffic noise

Great place to stay, good food, real cozy, the family that runs this is friendly and approachable. Lots of things to do ranging from board games to sports. Overall fantastic experience. (You can skip the part after this) As the review must be 200 characters, I'll talk about how the radio in the toilet turns on once you step inside,... More

Having spent a good part of the winter staying at Smylies I can't recommend it highly enough. If you are wanting simple affordable accommodation in the area this is your place. It's full of character and a lovely cosy place to return to at the end of a day adventuring. You won't find friendlier hosts and my daughter loved feeding... More

Lots of interesting memorabilia to peruse as you unwind from your day. Warm, with a nice fire and hot japanese showers. The cat is child friendly. I would not say the place is super polished but by the same token it sure isn't lacking feel. Not much to do in the actual town of Springfield however.
