We had a lovely weekend here in room 1. Elizabeth and David were the perfect hosts nothing too much trouble. The room was very clean, warm and spacious. We ate there both evenings sampling the gammon, the lasagne and the barnsley lamb chops. The home cooked chips were to die for. Breakfast was full english and enough to keep you... More

A warm welcome from Liz and David awaits you here. The rooms are in a separate block away from the pub and very quiet where the only sounds were bird song and an occasional baa from a sheep on the surrounding hills. If you're lucky you will see some of the birds in the wild garden where you are able... More

The room set in a single story separate block was fully equiped with ensuite shower room and separate kitchen. The latter was well equiped but we didn't make use of it. Whilst accepting that this is a country pub, the approach to the rooms through the rear garden was not inspiring, not doing anything to enhance the facilities. The breakfast... More

This was a really nice place to stay overnight on the way up to Scotland. It was small, quite and cozy. The food was also really nice aswell. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay over in the Lake District.

Recently stayed at the hotel for only one night. We arrived around 8.30pm and was shown to our room by the landlady and shown the information pack. We then ate in the pub, which was lovely food and quick service for a Saturday night. The room was good, and the whole place was very clean including the whole pub. The... More

Used The Head as a stop over on route to Edinburgh. Made to feel very welcome by David and Elizabeth. Great food, family room clean and comfortable, loved watching all the wild birds in the garden. Highly recommended accommodation, would certainly stay here again given the opportunity. Thanks again Dee and Trevor

This was our 4th visit and the standard provided by Elizabeth and David is as good as ever - great food - service and accommodation - and dog friendly too! We will be back again. Hope you enjoyed your well earned holiday - Keith & Shelly and the teenage monster x

A great place to stop if you want to get out into the fells and do some walking. Liz was the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble, and the food was great. A full English breakfast was the perfect start to the day, and a welcoming log fire to return to and a few drinks after a days walking.... More

We found the Head to be an excellent place to stay. We were made to feel very welcome and Liz and David were very friendly. It was great staying in the rooms at the back of the Head over looking the garden particularly as we had our dog with us. On the Friday night we enjoyed the music session and... More
