...and wasn't disappointed. Friendly service and good wholesome food. Fresh mushroom soup and a great steak and ale pie made for a superb lunch. Will definitely return to make use of the beer garden when the weather is a bit warmer!

What a charming little place. The staff were really friendly and it was a joy to sit at the bar and chat with the locals. Food was lovely and the rooms we stayed in were clean and bright. The sound of the river overnight was very relaxing. Would recommend to anyone.

My partner and I spent the August Bank hols here. It is a very charming hotel. Looks sweet and warming on the outside and you are greeted with the same looks on the inside. Check in was swift and easy. The room was a recent refurbed one and was a delight. Fresh, spacious, spotless, with a beautiful over the fab... More

We went here for a meal in the restaurant, we haven't been for years, the food was not nice. I had the steak and ale pie, you could have built a wall with it, the chips were nice though, my husband had a vegetarian meal and he enjoyed it, and the kids food was just your every day frozen dippers.... We (family of 4) were passing late on a rainy Sunday evening and called in to check whether they were still serving food. No problem they said. The fish and chips and steak and ale pie were lovely and great value. Good selection of beers too. Really homely place and good banter with the locals. We'll definitely go back when... More

Called on Saturday with my wife for some food. The hotel looked closed, but once inside, it was homely and nicely furnished. The food (steak and ale pie) was to die for. Priced at £9.95 seemed expensive, but it wasn't. The wife couldn't manage to finish hers, and I am ashamed to say that I was too full to help... More

Really good value; attentive staff; good plain fare with lots of variety specials that suit the regular lodgers working away from home. Personal touch from Landlord and Landlady makes a positive difference, can't be more helpful. Popular with professionals regularly staying when working at nearby Sellafield (5 mins drive; 20 mins walk)

We quite often go to the Stanley Arms for a meal as it's really good food at good prices. The menu is varied and fresh. It's certainly worth trying the homemade pies they make. Very tasty. Sundays roasts are always plentiful. Staff are very friendly every time. It's worth calling in advance to book a table just in case as... More
