Recently stayed at the Stanley arms and was very disappointed with the overall condition of the hotel. Staff were friendly enough but the condition of the accommodation was not satisfactory. Viewed a few rooms and all were of the same. Bathroom decoration in particular was of a low standard in all of them from pipework to dirty Tile grout. Every... More

I highly recommend this B & B hotel for your visit to the Lake District. Centrally located for most of the attractions, clean rooms, excellent food and the owners Clive and Mel are friendly and helpful. When we arrived, Dorothy one of the staff members showed me a renovated room that was beautifully decorated and well appointed. The cost was good... More

This place is in a fantastic location popped in for drinks after a great walk along the river running next to the Stanley. Beer garden is perfect for relaxing soaking up the sun with a cool beer. Will be returning on next visit to Cumbria.

Booked on the internet. Arrived late and warned them that we were going to do so. Shown to our room by the friendly and helpful bar staff. We appeared to be the only hotel guests, which made the room all the more inexplicable. Carpet brown for a good foot with filth by the door. Bathroom had oodles of trailing cobwebs,... More

Stopped here by chance one lunchtime, what a great find. Very warm friendly welcome from the staff in the bar. Good range of choices on the menu, we opted for the homemade pie, which turned out to be an excellent choice. When the food was delivered, we got good size portions of piping hot food, extra gravy was a really... More

My wife and I have often passed the hotel on our way up to our holiday cottage at Braystones, we always promised ourselves that we would pop in and finally we did on Tuesday. We were instantly made to feel at home by Dorothy the Manageress, the hotel was spotless, including the toilets. We made a 10 minute coffee and... More

We stayed at the Stanley again during our move from Staffordshire to Seascale. We were disappointed that they didn't have a room for all 5 nights we needed which meant we had to decamp again to another B&B. However, it was great to be back and Clive and Mel welcomed us like family (as they do with everyone). We had... More

Stopped off for lunch during my husbands work day, the place was empty when we arrived but the waitress made us feel very welcome. I had the liver (served with chips and not mashed potato) my husband had the gammon both were excellent, steaming hot and beautifully served. We shall defiantly go again.

Fabulous 3 nights stay at The Stanley Ams Hotel. Mel and Clive are perfect hosts along with their team and the friendly locals made us so welcome. Food is amazing with plenty of choice, breakfast a must! Dog friendly too with a fabulously well kept beer garden with a beautiful stream running along side, a must for the summer.
