We booked one night at the Knoll to break up our long drive to Scotland. It was fabulous, we were so disappointed we could not stay longer. The welcome is warm, the food is delicious and the location is great. We spent the evening relaxing in the candle lit lounge listening to the well chosen music. Our room was spotless... More

We made a late decision to get away for the night and chose The Knoll, The location is brilliant, tucked away in the country side so perfect for some peace and quiet. Received a warm welcome when we checked in and were shown to our room. We stayed in room 4 and it was beautifully decorated and spotless. A four... More

We were made to feel so welcome and the candles and music around the house on a evening just makes you want to curl up and relax. The food was delicious and everything you... More

Stayed for two nights with Sister and Brother-in-law who had stayed before, and my Husband. We were on a walking weekend. Lovely bedroom, cosy lounge, welcoming friendly staff. We decided to eat in as we knew we would be tired in the evening, food very nice and reasonable choice, nothing to much trouble for the staff. Great place, perfect for... More

The Knoll is situated at the southern end of the Lake District, ideal for exploring places like Cartmel and Grange-over-Sands as well as the usual tourist hot spots of Windermere, Ambleside, Hawkshead and such like. It's in a very quiet spot about half a mile from Lakeside where you can get on the boats to Bowness and Ambleside, and approximately... More

We booked 5 days at The Knoll and chose the 'Retreat' to stay in during our stay. the 'Retreat' is an annexe of the hotel, attached but only just. It give you the practicality you need of being in a hotel vs a rental cottage, but the privacy and seclusion of a rental cottage at the same time! Pros are... More

Just what we needed. A quiet spot with a lovely woodland at the back to walk thru. Only a few minutes from Newbie Bridge and Lakeside this is the perfect stay. Aromatic entrance to a cosy (cosy not cramped), lovely hotel. We enjoyed the relaxed feel of this place. Breakfast was a treat - no nasty big fry ups here,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This tranquil country retreat stands in beautiful grounds at the southern tip of Lake Windermere, surrounded by spectacular woodland. The unwinding begins the moment you arrive. Following a warm welcome, you'll be shown to one of eight beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with its own luxurious en suite bathroom. We've thought of everything, from little treats like complementary toiletries to more practical concerns like hair dryers, Satellite TV, DVD and iPod dock, internet access and your own hospitality tray. We also offer complimentary use of the local four star hotel's health and fitness spa. After that, it's up to you. Our pleasant gardens suggest drinks on the lawn or a lovely outdoor eating experience. Open log fires and a cosy drawing room invite you to curl up and relax. If it weren't for our superb location, you'd never want to go out - but the Lake District beckons, and it's all just waiting to be explored. Need a last minute gift?
