This hotel is self-described as luxury which is a bit of an overstatement. It is, however, very comfortable and we had a great room on the ground floor overlooking the water and waterbirds in the foreground and the mountains in the distance. Restaurant is also not fantastic but more than adequate - the lobster soup was especially fine.

We were disappointed with our stay at Hotel Budir. While the setting and the views are beautiful, so are those of many of the other places on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, so there is no reason to pay Budir prices for what you can get at so many other places. At the outset, the rooms were mediocre, at best. My room... More

This charming hotel was one of the stops on our honeymoon tour around Iceland. The hotel and food were very nice. The restaurant was able to cater for my difficult gluten free and vegetarian diet. The location of the hotel was just something else. Set amidst lava fields, out on it's own, we couldn't have wished for a more picturesque... More

We stayed here for 3 nights towards while touring Iceland. The hotel is in an isolated spot with just a small church nearby on a really lovely headland. After checking in we went for a walk along the headland and there are some fine walks around the hotel. The location of the hotel is special, with a fantastic view from... More

This hotel and its restaurant is fabled among Icelanders as one of the best in the country. We weren't staying at the place but popped in for a meal and it soon became evident that poor service was going to let the evening down. Our maitre d' - a porcine and campy chap with glasses - got our names wrong... More

Reading some other reviews I can see the hotel seems to offer a 'love it or hate it' experience for guests. Are some guests too picky? I suspect they should stay in large commercail premises - in the chain hotels - where they will get American-style service and amenities with no surprises! The group of 20 Australians we were travelling... More

So overrated! Mediocre accommodations and weak service. Coasting on its location. Our family of 7 stayed for two nights in this hotel as part of a 10 day tour of Iceland. We arrived at an uninteresting building. The bar and a small sitting area faces the water, with a very nice view, though marred by an ugly concrete dock, ringed... More

Our daughter's wedding and reception took place at this hotel this past weekend. We could not have asked for better service and people. Everyone went out of their way to make the couple's wishes happen. The hotel, church and area hold a special atmosphere that one cannot put a finger on except to say I believe everyone had an exceptional... More

Beautiful hotel, stunning location and the staff were amazing. Despite the freezing temperatures, the hotel was kept nice and warm with a very relaxed atmosphere. The food in the restaurant was fantastic. We had to leave at 4:30AM for our flight; they arranged a special breakfast and coffee for us which was much needed. I highly, highly recommend this hotel.
