If you are driving through the central section of Mexico, you must visit San Luis Potosi! Stay at the Hotel Filher in the center and enjoy the ambiance of balconies overlooking cobbled streets, proximity to shopping, and best of all for some of us, four zocalos with at least six cathedral sized Catholic churches. open, with the Eucharist and many masses. The Filher accepted my two little poodles, too, and it's quite reasonable ($30 per day as I recall). The staff could not be sweeter. The town is filled with young people studying at several universities and teacher training institutes, and they are delightful. I could never lift anything and the streets ring with their apparently never ending performances and celebrations (it must be part of teaher training to dress up in traditional costumes and sing a lot!). I adore Potosi. You MUST go. more
