Desperately wanted to love this place – and just couldn’t. We came for a long Bank Holiday weekend- seeking what we thought would be a kind of rustic, ‘hip’ hotel; or a comfortable pub with rooms, and places to sit by a fire and relax after a cliff walk or an indulgent lunch. We were disappointed. We know Cornwall extremely... More

Thank you for your thoughts. It sounds as if you stayed last year (as you stayed on a Bank Holiday), since when we've done what you rightly suggest and made space for those not eating with us by turning what felt like a corridor into a snug with sofas and a couple of extra drinking tables. Guests seem to be... More

Popped in a few weeks ago for dessert and coffee. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Saw sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream on the menu and ordered it with a de-caff coffee. Not being a fan of clotted cream I asked if I could have ice-cream instead, which was no problem. The dessert was seriously delicious and the de-caff... More

We just stumbled across this lovely pub and had a wonderful lunch. So surprised they took dogs, and ours could fit under the table very nicely. I had the beef stew and my husband had lamb both mouth watering. We both also had desert, which were also delicious. Staff friendly and welcoming, could not do enough for us. We would... More

Warmly welcomed from the start to this perfect idyll. Fantastic rooms, great staff, lovely food, fantastic ambience, special thanks to Jade for whom nothing, no matter how small, was too much trouble.

This inn relies heavily on rustic charm which it has in spades. Our double room was just big enough to fit a camp bed for our son and was very basic. No TV which is probably a marmite love or hate thing. Beers and wines were good, spirits pricey. Food excellent. I wouldn't say especially exciting but perhaps that was... More

We last visited Gurnards Head Hotel 2 years ago and I ate one of the most amazing dishes I have ever eaten, and it it beyond me why its taken us so long to return. But return we did, during fabulous 80mph winds which added the the little hotels charm and beauty as its sturdy exterior sheltered us from the... More

With a meeting in Cornwall the next morning, we treated ourselves to a night at The Gurnard's Head, on their winter break terms - £140 for two, DB&B, for a double room. This was a cosy haven in wet and windy January weather. The bed in the double room was just as comfortable as other reviewers have said and the... More

Last week I paid my 5th visit to The Gurnard's Head, my third since it changed from pleasant way-side pub to foody heaven. The 2 course lunch was superb; the cod easily the best I have ever tried, and contrary to other reviewers I thought the portion sizes to be more than adequate, and although my rice pudding was a...
