The hotel is one block away from the zocalo, main plaza with lots of restaurants too. The staff were friendly, it was fine. The rooms were in reasonable condition, bathroom was clean but with low water pressure, but hot water was no problem. One of the skirting boards in the room was very loose and there was some plaster on... More

This hotel has two great things: price an location. it is located downtown, one block away from Zocalo and the very good restaurants that surrounds the plaza. We asked for a two bed's room and we got one twin and one full. That was a first. I lost the flip coin, so I have problems sleeping in the smaller bed.... More

We asked for a room with a queen or king size bed. We were given a room with two twin beds meant for anyone over 6 feet tall. When we asked for other room we were told there were not others available. So we said be would have to find another hotel. They finally showed us a the suite at... More

Oh my ... this place should be shut down for security reasons ... broken windows, erratic elevators, mold in the bathroom ... someone please call the municipal sanitary investigators ! There is absolutely no reason to choose to stay in this run down place.

I stayed at Hotel Gilfer as part of a G Adventures tour (MMC). The property was well situated and close to the main Zocalo and to restaurants, shops, post offices etc. Check in was relatively quick and we got a hotel room with a big window and nice view overlooking the city. Rooms were clean and there was even a... More

We stayed here twice on a trip to Oaxaca. Well situated and clean hotel. Nice TV. Air conditioned and heated. Skip the new Thai restaurant in the hotel. Would stay here again.

When checking in, I looked at several rooms on the 7th floor. The fellow was most accommodating, and my room was the last on the corridor with room-width windows overlooking Cathedral. One of the desk staff sent me off to the Carmen Market where I had the most wonderful cemita (easily 5" tall!). Instructions were to go into the market... More

We were on a tour, so not sure how much these hotels were. Hotel Gilfer was very nice, especially comparing to hotels we stayed in Oaxaca, Merida, Palenque, San Cristobal. First of all, the cleaning staff lady warned us that we had to wait "poquito" for water. She was very nice and friendly! The rooms were clean, hot water was... More

One stayed here for two nights, and chose to have a room on the south side of the building (great view to a mountain and wide vista of the south of the city ) then the next night the north side of the building (close up view of the Cathedral and a partial view of the fountain in the main... More

The hotel is located about a block away form the zocalo. It is very easy to walk there and it only takes 2 or 3 minutes. The zocalo has many places to eat and the main church. A few blocks away is a small market with arts and crafts. The hotel room was clean, pretty good sized and we had... More
