Prices are ok, 10 for a dorm but we had a private room for 26. Location is great if you want to stay out of town. Close to several bars and restaurants, easy to get a bus to town. Everything is clean, you have hot water, locker and a kitchen available. Best, staff is very friendly and helpfull. Not the... More

Place was OK, the staff was friendly, it was nice to talk to them (there were more employees than guests at that time), we were invited to join them and make some bbq together. You should have your confirmation with you - they told us we booked different room than we actually did (their mistake), but eventually we get what... More

Really close to Calle de la Amargura, the best street for dancing with locals, so if you're coming or going to the airport you have a great place to hang out in San Jose. I'm staying long term though (discounts for a week or longer), so I can use the kitchens (tupperware!), and be close to the Sunday feria (farmers... More

I stayed at Castle Tam on two separate occasions and enjoyed my stay both times. The staff (Jonathan, Evan, and Christian) were helpful. There is wifi throughout the hostel, including a good connection in the rooms. The hostel also does a BBQ or dinner night, and has a nice common area with a TV/movies...great for meeting/visiting with other travelers. I... More

Great hostel, everything you need is right there, beds were comfy and showers were always hot and clean. Staff were friendly and called taxis and helped my friends make early airport drop offs. Overall was a great experience and I'll definitely go back to stay again

Castle Tam for us was the perfect pit stop in San Jose. 24hr check in and security is helpful as often people passing through are coming and going on buses at all hours. The well planned out hostel has an abundance of helpful resources about transport, San Jose and Costa Rica which is a nice touch. The living area is... More

Simple but homely with mostly friendly staff. Close to numerous buses at a short drive from center. 2 equipped kitchens, tv area, heaps of books to borrow on costa rica... Ideal budget option. But no 10$ a night in san jose is not going to buy you a haute cuisine breakfast included in the price but here it does buy... More

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to stay for one month at the Castle Tam in Costa Rica. 1. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful and they had a great sense of humor. 2. The room was basic but very comfortable and clean. 3. Two large kitchens that are fully equipped and you can prepare any type of... More

The staff was very unfriendly at all times and didn't make us feel welcome. It seems that there are a few guests who have a TV and because the walls are really thin you could here the tv in the middle of the night when you wanted to sleep. Also the included breakfast contains of 1 slice of bread, 1/2... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We're in the heart of lively, upscale San Pedro, only 300 meters from the University of Costa Rica and the student nightlife of Calle de la Amargura. Our hostel is 10 minutes by bus from downtown San Jose and walking distance from San Pedro Mall, three supermarkets and many restaurants! We have two full kitchens and plenty of fridge space for your food. Hang out with fellow travelers in the courtyard, or watch students pass by on the outside terrace. San Pedro is a safe neighborhood in San Jose, so we enjoy taking our guests out for movie nights, skating, city walks and pub crawls on Calle de la Amargura. We have regular BBQs, hot water in every bathroom and free WiFi throughout the building. ... more   less
