Stayed overnight in the camping area with family in a camper trailer (had planned on Dalhousie but ran into car problems). Great shady spot, amenities more than adequate, dinner was excellent and beer was cold. Dave went out of his way next morning to assist with vehicle repairs to get us on our way. Nothing was too much trouble, great... More

Sometimes you come to these outback places and have no idea what you are in for. The staff and owners at Mt Dare go out of their way to make sure that you have a great experience. Book by 1800 for dinner and Dave will cook you up a good country meal. Their stubble holder collection is one to be... More

Stopped in for a few drinks and an overnight stay in the camp ground. We always like to support outback business by spending a few dollars and saying hello. Reception was not friendly despite our efforts to engage in conversation and happily buying drinks over the bar The amenities are basic which is to be expected given the location, however... More

We planned to celebrate having crossed the Simpson from Birdsville. Planned on sitting back in the Bar and enjoying a few ales. The reception provided by the owner and his partner was less than enthusiastic. The meals were nice but you had to pre order and make sure you were back in the Bar by 6.30....which we did. Meals didn't... More

We stayed in the campground during our month long desert camping trip. This is an isolated position but very important especially for people setting out to cross the Simpson. The camp ground was dusty and showing signs of recent wet conditions. The shower/toilet facilities were as you would expect in a position so far from a major town. They needed some... More

Mount Dare is seriously remote. The nearest town is Oodnadatta (not really a town) and the corner milk bar is Alice Springs about 350km away, most over very rugged tracks. We were therefore not expecting anything very flash. We were very pleasantly surprised by a friendly, high quality bush pub with excellent hearty food and good wines and beers. Breakfast... More

We stayed in a room in the old house. There were only shared bathroom and toilet facilities that was in need of some maintenance. The pub and meals were good. She tries her best and the steak was great. Fuel is available. The room was not bad but the bathroom was not good.

If you are realistic, don't go seeking five star accommodation in the outback. But if you need a hot shower after days of camping - this is the place. The showers offer plentiful hot water and the toilets are clean. Fuel is available, but be prepared to get in line if you turn up during winter school holidays. Food is... More

We were very disappointed with this pub, there was no atmosphere what so ever, the staff (including the owner) were not interested in talking to us even though we were sitting at the bar and there was virtually no one else there. The menu for dinner consisted of three choices and you had to pre-order (not sure why)....also the pub... More
