The Descanso Real or El Alcazar hotel in San Miguel de Allende is a newly renovated hotel half a block from the Zocalo. Hotels in San Miguel de Allende are overpriced and we looked at many different places. This small hotel was great for about $100. We had a nice suite with a very comfortable mattress which is a rare find in Mexico. The room was super clean and had a nice tiled bathroom, a living area with couch and table and chairs. Downside was that there was no heating (yet) and it gets chilly at night in the winter. After having stayed in the hotel next door for one night. Impossible to get any sleep because of street noise and church bells we found this place. We stayed 3 nights. Very quiet, clean, nicely renovated small hotel with a great price for the location. Highly recommended by a very picky (trust me) and experienced traveler.
