The room was incredibly charming. The food was really very good. My niece's wedding was an absolute fairy tale, and our visit from the ghost on our last night made the experience complete. He was a bit noisy, but quite handsome. Surprisingly, I wasn't scared. I would go back in a heartbeat! The bathroom didn't exactly have ALL the luxuries... More

The castle was really the only let down we had on our ireland vacation. The outside grounds are nicely kept and the castle looks great from the outside. Once we went in though it just looks old and in need of repair. Not 1600's old more like 1950's old. The public areas look and feel run down, and our room was... More

We stayed here from 18th-20th July 2014. From the moment we arrived, Kinnitty Castle lived up to our expectations. Ater a quick and efficient check-in and we were shown to our rooms in the Abbey Court wing. Room was smallish but it was what you would expect, had everything you needed. The only thing I would say is that there... More

Don't believe the negative reviews of Kinnitty. If you are looking for a 5 star resort, then go stay in one. However, if you are looking for a charming, quaint and romantic castle that won't break the bank, Kinnitty is one of your best options in the southern half of Ireland. We searched for weeks for a reasonably priced castle... More

We stayed at the Kinnity Castle as part of our Ireland road trip. My husband thought it would be a fun and unique experience. Kinnity sits on a beautiful property and is one of the more affordable castle stays in the Irish countryside. There are some beautiful trails you can enjoy around the castle grounds and upon check-in some history... More

My husband booked us a night in this castle as a special birthday treat. We arrived, had a quick peek about and then took a 2 hr horse ride through the Irish hills. It was breathtaking. We showered up and had a gorgeous dinner while the sun was setting. We retired to the bar and had an after dinner drink... More

This was a highlight of our trip to Ireland (I'm Irish and living in the US, my boyfriend is American). The castle itself is beautiful. The hidden corridors and rooms downstairs are worth exploring and the yard out back is so pretty and wonderful for photo shoots. Our room was large and bright and spacious. The shower/tub was a bit... More

This place is the real deal. The location, rooms, creaky floorboards, archways, meandering corridors, hidden staircases, dungeons, stonework etc. the list is endless. You can smell the history and if you listen carefully, you can hear the many voices, of the numerous inhabitants over the last 800 years. Kinnitty Castle deserves to be stuffed full of tourists from one end... More

Although the castle looks wonderful, sleeping there just wasn't for me. You hear absolutely everything, creaky floors, creaky furniture etc.. There was no wifi in the bedrooms and for me that is just not acceptable as I work on the go. €5 for a pint on draught is also ridiculous. Afternoon tea was nice, staff were helpful, bed was not... Dear Adrian w Thank you for the review, I am sorry to read that you did not enjoy you stay entirely, we have complimentary WIFI available in the public areas of the Castle, however due to the depth of the original stone walls, WIFI cannot reach to our bedrooms, as with this, a lot of the features in the castle,... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Kinnitty Castle, the celebrity haunt, is close to the picturesque village of Kinnitty, Co. Offaly set beautifully against a backdrop of the Slieve Bloom Mountains and is in Ireland's only designated Environment Park. The Castle has a long and turbulent history. Dating originally from 1209, Kinnitty was destroyed and rebuilt not once but twice and yet it retains character and oozes charm. Kinnitty even has its own ghost - a monk, no less! Kinnity is in a great location only 90 minutes from Dublin and is a great stop off point for journeys west or southwards. It is an exceptional place for lovers of good food and the great outdoors. ... more   less
