Set amongst the rolling countryside of Northumberland and a stone's throw from the stunning coastline lies The Old Manse in Chatton. Our three day stay couldn't have been better. Wonderful hosts in Ian and Mary, where nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful bedrooms, superb breakfasts, and, all the local information of weather, events, suggested places to visit plus the abundance... More

We're glad that you were able to wind down after your walking holiday in Northumberland, and take it easy at The Old Manse - you must have been so chilled out that you didn't realize you actually stayed here four nights (arrived Saturday, left Wednesday). More

We have stayed in a number of B&B's and this was definitely one of the best. Our hosts were welcoming and went out of their way to help. We arrived much earlier than they were expecting and they still accommodated us with a smile. Our rooms were all spotless and very attractively decorated and the food was delicious. We would... More

We're glad that we were able to look after you all with your busy weekend - perhaps next time you will be able to stay longer and relax more without rushing around herding the family between wedding, reception and leaving early for the cricket match. Thank you for recommending us. More

Room was very comfortable, food was very good with more choice than we expected. Hosts were very friendly and did everything possible to make us feel welcome and to help us make the most of our two night stay. Would not hesitate to stay there again if in the area.

Glad to know that your expectations were exceeded - as we do not know what people's expectation will be, we set the bar high so that everyone's expectations can (at the very least) be fully met. More

From the moment the front door was opened the warm, homely atmosphere of The Old Manse enveloped us and was the perfect location for exploring the Northumberland Coastline and the peaceful rivers that travel through the hills. Our hosts were advocates of the area and offered us a selection of literature to help us decide where to walk and visit... More

We're pleased that were able to relax after your busy walking exploits (there's so much to see and explore in Northumberland) and were able able to keep you going with good food and pleasant slumber. Please do come again - you're most welcome. More

We're very lucky with the weather so it's nice to serve tea in the garden to enjoy the views from around the pond - the fish like the company too. As your in-laws had stayed here previously, it would be nice for all of you to return one day together. More

We have just spent a wonderful night at this hotel. We were met with a very warm welcome by Ian & Mary. They are a delightful couple. Although we were on a B&B basis, we were given tea/coffee on our arrival which was a nice touch. We had our dog with us and were located on the ground floor in... More

It's nice that you experienced the comfort of a hotel but we're only a B&B - this is our home which we love and are happy to share, which is why we can give that little extra bit of attention to our guests on a small intimate scale. Durham is lovely too, but I can see why you wished you... More

An absolute gem in the North Northumberland countryside....and a hop skip and jump from the haunted Chillingham Castle and it's Highland Cattle. It would be difficult to find more friendly, hospitable and accommodating hosts than Ian and Mary Catchpole. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Ian's breakfasts are destined to become the stuff of legend...a real treat for the... More

The good news is that the rabbits have stopped feeding on my carrots, runner beans and broccoli - the bad news is because there is nothing left for them to feed on as they've totally decimated them all ! We will offer a special discount to anyone who can train rabbits into only eating ground elder, mares tails and the... More

We spent 10 days in Mary and Ian's beautiful bed and breakfast. We felt at home from the minute we arrived and nothing was too much trouble to make our stay very enjoyable. The breakfast menu gave plenty of choice and you could even go off piste with your request! We would highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone... More

Don't tell everyone you can go off piste with the breakfast selection - it only gets Mary in trouble from the chef for allowing it! Seriously though, we think the breakfast menu offers a variety of well balanced dishes to suit most tastes, but we always try to be accommodating (including providing a tea party for the teddy bears whilst... That is just how Ian and Mary made you feel, from the minute we arrived, we were welcomed and treated to coffee and cake, our bags were taken to our room and what a room, beautiful 4 poster bed, so comfortable. Breakfast was great, Ian's homemade beans delicious, and floddies, mmmmm! Sadly we were only there overnight, but would most... More

You did well to get back to Norfolk from Holy Island in 6.5 hours with a break - you must have been the first off the island after the tide. We'd love to see you back again, especially if you can stay longer as there is so much to see. More

We were going to arrive slightly late and rang Ian and Mary to let them know - they said it wasn't a problem. We were welcomed with a lovely cup of tea and some toast. The room was superb, with a fridge, tea and coffee, a fabulous bed and spotlessly clean throughout. The breakfast was out of this world and... More

Although the Full English with homemade sausage & floddies is our signature breakfast dish, I must agree with you as my favourite is the scrambled egg cooked with smoked salmon on a freshly buttered muffin. We're glad you managed to get your photos of the puffins in flight from Farne Islands, which now adorn our web site - many thanks. More
