For those of you familiar with Copal, most of it is now Papaya Playa and what is left of the rest of Copal is very run down. They have put up an ugly fence just past the sweat lodge that divides the 2 leaving just a few of the old Copal Cabanas on the Copal side near Azulik. Auzulik is... More

After a trip through the center of mexico in different accomodations, we arrived in Tulum playa with no booking. We asked for one in Papaya Playa, and we had to wait 1h30 to have an answer because of their internet connection, without they can't do anything, even don't know what is free or not. The woman who received us talked... More

My girlfriend and I had made a reservation for 7 days over New Year and at that time were not 100% sure what could be expected. The old reviews of the resort have been very bad, and the homepage was not ready then. But we knew about the new owner and what they are up to in the Project and... More

We spent 7 days at The Papaya Playa Project.  The Papaya Playa Project (TPPP) is what they are calling a pop up hotel. They have 98 cabanas and it encompasses a former section of the former Cabanas Copal, the old Papaya Playa and another property.  It is supposed to be temporary and then they will pass it off to another... I admit, I was hesitant because of the reviews here. However, I was convinced to give the place a shot after a completely different point of view by the New York Times (http://nyti.ms/yeSTfa). The place is run by different management from these older reviews. Currently, a German hotel group runs the place and they put a lot of effort into... More

We choosed Papaya Playa for our New Years holidays, but although the place has a lot of a potential, it was not the best choice. Staff was kind but not really helpful, they wanted to give as jungle view cabana instead of ocean view what was already paid in November, but at the end they solved this problem by moving... More

Papaya Playa was also the name of an older incarnation of the property that is now being run by a group of Germans operating it as a pop-up hotel. I can't really speak for how the place used to be, but I'm pretty confident in saying that you are safe in ignoring those older reviews. I just got back from... More

I have been to the Papaya Playa in January 2010 and while reading all those negative reviews I had questioned what did those people expect for US$30 (that’s what I paid last year)? Then I arrived this January and if I had to sum it up in one phrase it would be: “the most expensive camping you are likely to... More

I will admit I was pretty nervous about this hotel after all the bad reviews, but I was left scratching my head at them when I arrived. Yes, this place is under construction, but none of it got in our way (or was even noticable). The restaurant was open although we just had drinks there as the menu didn't interest... More
