Cool beach, good food, kite surfing!! Drinks, great music! If you are planing to stay here or just come for a day it's really cool for couples or group of friends ) They have cabanas where you can stay and a spa (planning to try it just now) Order their guacamole and totopos, it's really good and filling.

I spent 34 nights at Papaya Playa Project and loved every minute of it. The sunrises are incredible, the beach is peaceful. The staff was really nice and extremely helpful. The amenities are just what you need, when you need them. They have a pretty good selection of books in different languages you can borrow from the front desk. I... More

I and my wife stayed in PPP for 3 nights at end of July. We found an offer for a small room, but with a/c. Actually the room was very small. But for a few nights it was quite ok. It's eco-friendly hotel, with some consequences. The water is salty. It's purified, clean, but salty from the see. You can... More

Papaya Playa is awesome for a few days chilling out. Downfalls: restaurant is overpriced and food is not authentic (better to eat in town), cheaper rooms are not great for price - if you can upgrade your room, the bathroom in our cabana was basically unusable for the time we were there. We mentioned this to reception and they 'cleaned'... More

We went to Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula this summer, and the first place we stayed was at Papaya Playa Project in Tulum. We were traveling on a budget, and when booking online on their website in the last minute, we got a good discount. We chose the most basic cabin, and it was basic, but everything is so tastefully... Friends and I met up in Tulum for a long weekend in August. Yes, it's really hot in August unless you are in the direct path of the ever-present ocean breeze. Papaya Playa Project (PPP) is a bohemian-chic beach resort located at the beginning of the Tulum hotel area on a stretch of road that runs along the ocean. There... More

Super value for this hotel. View on the sea is extra. The room is very simple but the bed is quiet comfortable. Negative point is the noise from the music at the bar. Music was very lound and our room was too far from the bar.

The place is wonderful. It was a little hot sleeping in our beachfront hut but other than that the place is great. Food was great. Beachfront beautiful and secluded. I recommend. Spend a little extra for one of their air conditioned suites if you can.

Fantastic location with a perfect private and quiet beach. We booked the ocean view AC cabins which were great - located 30 m. from the beach with a private bathroom and small patio. The rooms and the resort in general is not luxurious as such but if you want a place to chill and relax in authentic surroundings and with... More

The Papaya Playa Project (PPP) is a nice hotel in the beautiful beach of Tulum. It is quite isolated from the rest of the hotels and the main area so its much nicer if you have a car/bike and want to leave the hotel. The rooms are bungalow style, pretty small, have no WiFi or phone reception, with an eco-shower... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Introducing, PAPAYA PLAYA, A DESIGN HOTELS™ PROJECT hitting Tulum, Mexico from December 6, 2011 to late 2012. Having sought far and wide for a place to create an authentic, nurturing experience, the 900 meter stretch of oceanfront paradise cocooned on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera was the perfect spot. Together with Emilio Heredia, owner of the existing Papaya Playa beach bungalow resort, Design Hotels™ is initiating the ultimate pop-up camp. Claus Sendlinger explains: “Our idea was to create a transitory, yet deeply culturally-rooted experience and we couldn’t have dreamed up a better place to make this happen. Capitalizing on the natural environment and multicultural character of Tulum, we quickly put together an international team of real visionaries, each enriching the experience with their own food, music, design or wellness concept. The enthusiasm and creative energy of everyone involved enabled us to renovate the camp and put together a holistic program within a very short period of time.” So come December, the authentic-pleasure seekers have a new raw-luxe camp they can sink and rub their feet into. Eighty-five cabañas have been renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team. Integrating local materials and building techniques, they encourage its residents to soak in the warmth of the elements, both physically and mentally. The separation between man and nature diminishes in these rustic spaces while the perception of small indulgences – like high thread count sheets, flowing mosquito nets and thick towels – is heightened. The ultimate luxury in most of the cabañas, is the private porch, where hammocks gently swing guests into sync with Tulum’s laid-back rhythm. ... more   less
