Having read the tremendously awful reviews posted over the past two weeks we decided to not take any chances (as it was our honeymoon) -and cancelled. I already had received correspondence from them which gave me the feeling that they were ridiculously overpriced (they offered us a 'special' honeymoon dinner... At $150usd per person - um, no thanks). That price... More

We had been highly recommended this hotel by friends in London. Unfortunately it was a shocking experience and the only reason we stayed was due to the fact that we had paid $3,000 to stay and they would not refund our visit even though it is a complete FALSE REPRESENTATION of the hotel on the website. The rooms are so... More

Papaya is a beautiful place in paradise. Unfortunately at the moment paradise is lost due to the huge amounts of sargassum. If you are planning on coming here in the next few weeks to swim then cancel! You can't go anywhere near the sea and its smelly. The water is also brown. I'm aware this is nature and at least... Having heard great things about Tulum I was looking forward to having a look around and spending some time on the beach and enjoying the hotel. This isn't a hotel. There are huts made of local materials that are littered along the stretch of beach, you can see the sky through the roofing material. Most mornings we would find a... More

They have a cool app and are well branded but the reality is that the place is a dump that in the not so recent past charged $35 for a cabin. And I mean cabin. But now charge $200 plus for a bare bones shack on jagged pathways. I was offered a room upgrade for another $300+ a night because... More

We stayed here and ate here and it was fantastic. The restaurant/bar area has a great view with an amazing breeze. The food and drinks here are great. You really cannot go wrong at Papaya Play. The rooms are basic but clean. We got the air conditioned room and it was perfect. Needed the a/c since it was August. I... More

If you are expecting luxury accommodations, this is not the place for you. The whole property is designed as individual cabanas and offer some sense of privacy and semi-isolation. This is perfect if you want a relaxing private atmosphere. I highly recommend beach front room if you can. Beach is clean and well kept and semi-private as well as no... More

I hope everybody can read this, specially people from Mexico. The place is Extremely overpriced for what it is. You can find something like Papaya for much less money ( which they charge right when you arrive) a couple of km in the same street. We arrived there at 2am from a long trip and we were welcomed by a... More

We recently visited the Papaya Playa Project and we were not just disappointed - we were devastated. There is not clean water....and not like other hotels and places in Mexico - you cannot even brush your teeth with it. The "luxury linens" certainly were not in our $520/night room. The air conditioning was hidden in a closet.....and I could go... More

As a quick summary before I start, the ground of the hotel are beautiful, and it's definitely more of a beachside, authentic atmosphere they are going after which is nice, but at the price of $260/night plus, this is a very, very overpriced hotel considering you can get just as beautiful views, authentic experiences, and excellent customer service anywhere in...
