It is a very nice environment to go and switch off, The beach is lovely with several tones of blues white sand and excellent area to relax. Also music is very nice. Service is good and have a good attitude towards the guests. I had the opportunity to be at the Full Moon Party, and it was a great experience.... More

This place was awesome. Cool vibe, really cool and NICE people and the food was amazing. Their night life is great, the full moon party was a fresh and the beach is one of the best in the Riviera Maya. I love how the property meshed into the geography. Would MOS DEF go back. See you soon PPP!

The moment I arrived at Papaya Playa Project, I knew this was the perfect Tulum place for me. The first few nights I stayed in one of their new casita suites which was like a dream! The bed was amazing and the roof view was incredible. The last few nights I was there, I stayed in an oceanfront casita with... More

I have so much to say about this place, it's a very long story so I'll write it in points, PLEASE READ THEM ALL!: 1. When we booked for the hotel it says 84$ trough booking and when we got there they charged us for 147$ without asking us before or showing us the room. We asked to pay just... More

My hardest decisions at Papaya Playa Project were deciding to sit on the hammock or on the sun bed and what to eat off the menu. I loved this place and recommend it to all my friends. They had a full moon party on Sat night which was lots of fun.

My fiancé and I stayed there for one night, unfortunately it was raining like hell but getting to PPP made our stay: I booked months ago an ocean front cabaña and at check in the manager told us that good news: we got an upgrade to one of the suites! I work myself in the hospitality field (Design hotels) and... More

So this is a 'eco resort' - I get that, but I don't think I was prepared for the standard of the hotel resort. We stayed in two different cabanas on our stay at PPP. The first cabana was a 'garden view cabana' - the room was tiny and the bathroom was basic. If it wasn't for the air conditioner... More

I stayed at Papaya for 9 nights with my sister and we loved it. At first we weren't too sure about booking it due to some bad reviews but then it felt like those bad reviews were from people who only like a certain type of luxury. The rooms are basic and very integrated with nature (much more than the... More

This is a tougher review to make because there were several stellar parts of my stay and some that were lackluster. Overall. I stayed in the Rustic Casitas and love the concept of an eco-hotel that encourages a little disconnecting (i.e. no electricity, in room wifi and air conditioning) and a back to basics style decor. However if i returned... More

DO NOT BOOK HERE IF YOU WANT A RELIABLE HOTEL. Would not recommend this hotel to ANYBODY. I had a reservation for three months and had paid my deposit when, ONE WEEK before my trip was scheduled, I get an unapologetic email from the hotel saying that due to a "booking error" they could no longer give us our room.... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Introducing, PAPAYA PLAYA, A DESIGN HOTELS™ PROJECT hitting Tulum, Mexico from December 6, 2011 to late 2012. Having sought far and wide for a place to create an authentic, nurturing experience, the 900 meter stretch of oceanfront paradise cocooned on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera was the perfect spot. Together with Emilio Heredia, owner of the existing Papaya Playa beach bungalow resort, Design Hotels™ is initiating the ultimate pop-up camp. Claus Sendlinger explains: “Our idea was to create a transitory, yet deeply culturally-rooted experience and we couldn’t have dreamed up a better place to make this happen. Capitalizing on the natural environment and multicultural character of Tulum, we quickly put together an international team of real visionaries, each enriching the experience with their own food, music, design or wellness concept. The enthusiasm and creative energy of everyone involved enabled us to renovate the camp and put together a holistic program within a very short period of time.” So come December, the authentic-pleasure seekers have a new raw-luxe camp they can sink and rub their feet into. Eighty-five cabañas have been renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team. Integrating local materials and building techniques, they encourage its residents to soak in the warmth of the elements, both physically and mentally. The separation between man and nature diminishes in these rustic spaces while the perception of small indulgences – like high thread count sheets, flowing mosquito nets and thick towels – is heightened. The ultimate luxury in most of the cabañas, is the private porch, where hammocks gently swing guests into sync with Tulum’s laid-back rhythm. ... more   less
