I think the title says it all. We were expecting a simple, no frills place to spend a few nights. What we got was a crappy room that was unclean, smelly, had lots of bugs and was too hot to sleep in. Shame the place is such a dump, because the beach is nice. Save yourself and go elsewhere. more

We had stayed at Zulum (2 doors down) last year and enjoyed our stay but chose to stay at Cabanas Tulum to save money. It was well worth it. Our room was simple but clean. There were paint chips falling from the ceiling but it didn't bother us. The shower worked fine and it was cleaned every day. We had... more

We just returned from 2 weeks of staying at Cabanas Tulum, and it was perfect in every way. I'm still a little shocked at some of the reviews on here....yeesh, it's the tropics, so if you are looking for a hermetically-sealed, highrise place with zero insects, than this isn't your style. BUT, if you can deal with a simple, clean,... more

We went here knowing exactly what to expect based on previous TripAdvisor reviews. You get a no frills cinderblock room on an AMAZING beach. if luxury is your thing stay away. I was worried about cockroaches and ants but had no problem with neither. We paid the extra 10 bucks for the beachfront room and it was totally worth it.... more

I was a big fan of this place, because of the value and simplicity. It is hard for me to rate CT now. We really liked the place. Everything was what we expected for our second visit....except for the cockroaches. They were even in our bed. Put a damper on our sleeping at night, as did the Italian party that... more

Ok...its not the most comfortable stay but your going in for the value and the view. Im used to the ac and soft bed and refreshing shower but i can rough it out. You have an electric fan that works only certain hours of the day. I think 7-10 at night and morning. That goes for all the hotels in... more

We were looking for a small town feel. Our goal was to get away from the glitz and glamour of Cancun (Las Vegas x 10), and to stay in a local town that didn't have a fully developed tourist feel. We found that in Tulum and especially loved Cabanas Tulum because its secluded and everyone staying here was super friendly.... more

The owner Carlos and his nephew helped us when we had problems with our original hotel and then with our car rental company. They were understanding and trusting, I'm so happy that we were here when we had these problems. Me and my 15 year old son spent 4 days here 7/08 we were content. The wind kept us cool... more

We decided to stay here because we wanted to be on the beach but were traveling on a budget with young children so also wanted to avoid thatched cabanas or expensive hotels. The beach location is Cabanas Tulum’s main selling point. It’s just beautiful. The rooms were spacious and adequate, nothing special but fine. You get what you pay for... more

I spent two nights at the Cabanas Tulum in an oceanfront “bungalow” that suited my needs very nicely. The accommodations are, as others have noted, quite basic, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water during the hours when electricity was on. The curtains might show some signs of wear and tear,... more
