We had a great time at El Crucero. It's very convenient to the beaches and ruins. We stayed in one of the "theme" rooms - rooms with beautiful murals. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the room had a/c. The owners, Sharon and Mark, were very friendly and helpful. When we had problems (we had a... more

This hotel is amazingly affordable and SO much nicer than the other budget places in Tulum. There is hot water, new comfy beds and a relaxed atmosphere that will keep you here longer than you had planned. The easy walk to the ruins (and the beach) and the $3 taxi ride to town make this a great location. The owners... more

Wasnt too bad, The 30$ rooms are quite well priced. But dont get the overpriced theme rooms, they are quite filthy and not worth the money(we actually got bedbugs from these rooms). Well I suppose all the rooms are quite filthy(and im not a picky person at all).. the actual property to the hotel is very nice, lots of hammocks... more

Management response from

I very rarely respond to reviews, but in this case I feel I must. As most people know you can't please all of the people all of the time. We try, but sometimes no matter what you do, it would never be enough. As is the case with this traveler. To respond on the money trap issue....There are 2 other...

Great place... good times. We(me and my fiance) stayed there for two weeks.Sharona Corona and Funky Cold Markina(owners) are great hosts that let you do your thang and check in from time to time to see how your doing. All the other staff are Mexican and are very pleasant, polite and helpful. The food at the restaurant is great and... more

I just spent one week at El Crucero in Tulum. I stayed in room 12 which is one of their better theme rooms. It was clean and bright. . The water was hot and the hotel staff was friendly. They have a bar and restaurant that had good food, and drew in the local dive instructors nightly .Mark and Sharon... more

When you travel into another country you want to be able to learn how to get around and adapt to your destination quickly so you can enjoy yourself. right from the start of your vacation. This was so easy to do for us while we were in Tulum at the El Crucero because the owners, Mark and Sharon, were so... more

Forty bucks a night for two beds, a private bathroom, AC and the proximity to allow you to be the first one through the gate to the ruins sounds like a good deal. But add a great restaurant (A+ mole), a fun bar and a staff of folks who you can hardly wait to see again and you've got a... more

Can't beat this place for vibe, location, and price. My wife and I came here after Hurricaine Dean closed down the coast to find El Crucero one of the few hotels open for business. The owner gave us a great deal on the room, and the bar had a real "Cheers" feel with the regulars helping to make you feel... more

The only good points are their efficency of taking our money on the internet booking and the expensive restaurant which was more tex-mex food than mexican but with a lively atmosphere. It is a good location to see Tulum ruins. The bad points, The room (14) was like an outhouse from the 40's really small expensive ( be aware the... more
