This small group of cabanas is on a beautiful beach. There are a lot of other hotels and restaurants on the beach but it did not seem crowded at all, perhaps because we were there before Christmas and all the tourists. The cabana was very romantic, but remember that it gets very dark at night as all you have for... more

Do not get a cabana near the kitchen. I am all for roughing it and enjoying an eco-friendly cabana but from the moment we checked in, there were the biggest cockroaches I have ever seen just cruising across our bed. We told Lu who got the place fumigated (staying in a now toxic room is not the most romantic way... more

We just returned from a week in Tulum, spending five of those nights at Retiro Maya. It was our favorite place from this trip, and my favorite from all trips to Tulum thus far, based on what I look for. If you want a full-service, night-life juke joint, this ain't the place. I look for stay-out-of-my-way-thank-you respect with very little... more

We stayed at Retiro Maya for a week or so in January, 2008. Actually we liked it so much that we extended our stay there by 4 more days. And certainly wish we could have stayed longer. We highly recommend it. Cabanas Retiro Maya is a small, very relaxed, lovely resort south of Tulum. The entire resort consists of 12... more

We arrived at Retiro Maya around 3pm, the view from the restaurant/reception area was exactly like on the website photos, and the rooms better than I anticipated (soft sand on the floor). The reception was warm, and with such a small hotel one cannot complain. We stayed in one of the three rooms that are on the beach, the noise... more

My husband and I just stayed at Lu's Retiro Maya in Tulum last week and absolutely loved it!! The place is just amazing...just a dozen or so cabanas right on a perfect strip of beach. Our ocean view cabana was beautifully and tastefully decorated...my favorite part was the sand floors and gorgeous outdoor-ish bathroom (an amazing feeling to shower with... more

We stayed four days in this little paradise. Our Cabana was outmost romantic and in December for a correct price of 95 US Dollars per day. Reception was very friendly and breakfast excellent. more

Magic I spent eight days of magic at Retiro Maya. My intention was to be quiet and on my own with not too many tourism around. Retiro Maya was the ideal place for it. I spent a wonderful and magic time in an embracing and warm atmosphere, the place has a family feel to it, and that makes it very... more

Luckily, we stumbled upon this amazing beach front cabana while in Tulum, and it made our trip! All of the cabanas are beachfront, there isnt a bad cabana on the property. I fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing each night and woke up to the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. The staff was courteous and efficient,... more

Francesco and I went to Guatemala and Mexico for our honeymoon. Flew to Cancun and run away from there...Tulum was our destination, recommended by Giulia, a friend who had been there. Did not have a cabana reserved, was supposed to be low season but many places were fully booked. Saw a couple with available canbanas and then found Retiro Maya.... more
