The location is just fantastic. We had a room just in front of the seaside. Contrary to what most of the people are writing according to us the staff was nice and efficient. You have to take into account that several insects are living in the area and it is possible to find them in the rooms, which is normal,... More

This is a great place to stay if you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere, clean rooms and a great beach. Our host was very helpful with recommendations on travel and local services. And, in our opinion, the best Italian food in Mexico is served a few doors down at Posada Margherita. We would definitely stay here again!

I really had a great time here. The staff was was wonderful and warm. The short walk to the beach and view from the room was amazing. The room was a decent size and serves its main purpose. Great for low key and a relaxing experience. The restaurant on site was amazing. Bruno, on of the main chefs was extremely... More

The interesting thing about most reviews on TripAdvisor is the way travellers combine their overall holiday experience when reviewing the accommodation they stayed in. Given my wife and I stayed in two places whilst we were in Tulum we can hopefully be a little more subjective. First of all, we loved Tulum, very chilled, beautiful beach, great food, great drinks,... More

My wife and I stayed at Retiro Maya again (third time in 12yrs), and had exactly the low key experience we remembered. The best thing about this place is location. Quiet beach right out your door, we stayed in a palapa as we always have and loved it. The service is always good and Luu (the owner) remembered us from... More

We arrived in late morning at our booked hotel on the beach at Tulum. Flavia the manager taking over from owner who was taking some time off greeted us warmly. After telling her of our bus ordeal getting here from Belize she offered us an upgrade to ocean view cabana with an incredible view of the sunrise from our bed.... More

Tulum itself is unbeatable for it's combination of great beaches and ocean, relaxed funk ambiance, and great restaurants scattered along the beach, but Retiro Maya needs to substantially up its game before I would consider staying there again. We rented the 3 bedroom Casa with 2 other couples. The location is outstanding, just steps from the beach...but with a private... More

We stayed here longer than we intended because it was just what we were looking for - a peaceful, quiet place on the beach and yet set back and protected by a little berm that provided privacy. The staff were super friendly and the owner, who lives in the adjoining property is closely supervising and attending to her guests. The... More

I've been going to Tulum for more than 10 years. I often stay at a larger yoga resort but they were full when I tried to book a room on my most recent trip. After exploring alternatives, I found Retiro Maya - what a gem! Although not as high end as some other spots along the beach, it has an... More

My girlfriend and i had a great time at Retiro Maya. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The cabana was fun and literally on the beach. Free breakfast was a nice perk. Wifi works well near the lobby and occasionally even worked in our cabana. We were supposed to stay in Cancun our last 3 nights but we loved... More
