I was chatting with my pal Yvette in our double room when a cockroach skittered across her bed and up her stomach. She promptly shook it off and smashed it on the floor, but we both were sure to zip up our bags and check our shoes in the morning. For the price of your average Yucatan youth hostel, The... more

My only 'poor' rating in 9 months of traveling through Latin America goes to The Weary Traveler. 1) the guy at the reception was on MSN for 5min despite the fact he had 3 tired faces saying hello and standing at the counter staring at him. 2) it was raining that night, not a problem - it was rainy season... more

we wanted to reserve a room because we were travelling during semana santa, s we called this place. The guy who picked up the phone was very unfriendly, told us we would have to make an online reservation. We did so, had to leave passport number, credit card details and a 12 dollar deposit. On arrival, we found out that... more

Given reviews of bedbugs at the Weary Traveler, we walked all over Tulum looking for another comparable hostel and we couldn't find one. We ended up staying at the Weary Traveler and it was great. I didn't think it was dirty (I definitely saw worse when I was in Mexico). It's not a five star resort, it's definitely a hostel,... more

Very close to the ADO/OCC bus terminal so great if you're planning on catching a night bus or travelling onto other destinations. The hostel is on the main road in Tulum with plenty of good places to eat. Friendly environment with a bar and free bus to the beach twice a day. Good price, rooms and bathrooms are basic, recommend... more

i've travelled to many parts of the world and this hostel was one of the dirtiest. it's true, the staffreally dont care. every day i was there i watched more and more people come to breakfast covered in welts from bed bug bites. i watched it nearly ruin peoples trips as they left covered in red spots. then on the... more

I'm actually pretty entertained by reading everyone's reviews, I get the impression that people's overall experiences (good or bad) are clouding their judgement. The overall opinion seems to be that the place is dirty, and that was pretty much my experience. It wasn't the worst filth I've seen (especially after the Urban Hostel in Playa Del Carmen), but it was... more
