We stayed here for 5 nights in June and highly recommend the property. This is a great quiet place for couples who are looking to escape the hectic part of playa but still want to be within walking distance. The place is literally no frills so don't stay if you expect the mod cons of a regular hotel, but we... More

The Shalala Hotel is a beautiful, lush hotel in a very quiet part of Playa del Carmen. If you are looking for beer bongs, college co-eds, and parties, go somewhere else. Shalala is very close to the beach (several blocks) but also close to main strip of Playa del Carmen if you eventually want to go there. Another great aspect... More

We stayed in the 2 floor cabana for 3 nights - our first stop on our Mexican adventure. It was my first time in Mexico and a great first experience it was! We arrived at night... I didn't know what to expect but it was really easy to find and we were greeted by a really nice young guy who... More

We absolutely loved our stay in this little village of treehouse cottages in an artfully-designed tropical garden setting. The Hotel Shalala is the antithesis of the large all-inclusive resorts that house most visitors to the Riviera Maya - each of the four cottage units is unique, handcrafted, and creatively designed with naturalistic wood and stucco and stone, and palapa roofs.... We stayed in the 2 floor cabana for 6 days in March 2014. It was my wife's first trip out of the country, and she enjoys a more unique experience, so we decided against an all-inclusive and opted for Shalala as it was a little more budget-friendly, had great reviews, and a great location. We enjoyed our trip, but there... More

The pictures are great and the reviews look good. However, the room given to us wasn't secure by any definition and the mosquitoes came out in droves. We were booking another room before we even looked at the bathroom. For the rate, we expected more than just a couple mosquito coils tossed onto the dresser. If they sealed the windows... More

I stayed in shalala this January. I had pased by the hotel before, but never went inside. Went i arrived i was surprise by the amount of trees and foliage, and its proximity to the beach and 5th avenue. It is a very peaceful setting. There are ducks and dogs in the garden. The rooms are spacious and well decorated.... More

My girlfriend and I booked the 2 floors cabana for 7 nights and we were very pleased with everything this place had to offer. It's right around 5ta ave, up the road from the beach, and next to Regina' s, a great traditional Mexican restaurant. Perfectly located for your convenience. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and are one of... More

The rooms are very basic, dirty, no tv no air conditioner. The fans are very loud. Pool is cold and dirty. The shower had barely any water coming from it. Lots of mosquito's. Location is nice, close to restaurants and 3 blocks from the beach. The upstairs suite (240 $ per night) had multiple leaks in the roof, and also... More
