We stayed at Casa Tucan in July 2009. We had room #8 and were really happy with the room. First our daughter said that the room is pretty small, however we have traveled a lot and compared what you usually get for a smaller budget is not as nice as what you get in Casa Tucan. The room was clean,... more

My husband and I stayed for 7 days in Playa del Carmen at the Casa Tucan. We had a room #9 on the 3rd floor with kitchenette. This included an electric burner, small frig, sink, plates, utensils, coffee pot, pots and pans. The room was clean and could sleep 4, although that might be a bit cozy. The water pressure... more

I really enjoyed my stay at the Casa Tucan. It had super cute grounds and a very comfortable and clean room. There were a lot of amenities at the hotel, including a restaurant, internet, and a pool. They don't have parking in the building itself, but they set us up with parking across the street for an affordable price. The... more

The tree filled area surrounding the pool is nice, we liked the murals on the walls, and enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks surrounded by tropical birdsong. The food in the restaurant was nice. Casa Tucan is in the middle of Playa, (which is now very commercialised and touristy), but it was quiet enough at night for our children to sleep.... more

We spent a week in Playa del Carmen over the holidays with our two children. We selected Casa Tucan on the advice of a friend. It worked out just right for us. It is a simple place with lots of character for a great price. We loved the location close to the tourist area, beach and the real local community.... more

We wanted a budget place for a few days and in Playa there are only a limited number of such places. We decided on the Casa Tucan following a recommendation from 2 fellow Americans we met in Mexico City. The biggest problem we had was the heat in the rooms. I could just about cope but my friend found it... more

I first came here a few years ago when it was owned by an American called Gary Wendt. Gary had a vision and an energy about him that added to the experience. Sadly Gary sold it and the new owner is rather different. But the Casa Tucan still has something to offer the budget traveller. Stay in one of the... more

We arrived from Perth, Western Australia, after a long tiring flight and wanted to shower and take things easy. The bathroom smelt like a gents toilet, which didn't please us, with a skid mark in the toilet bowl. The shower was so feeble it was laughable. It was almost impossible to shower with the weak spray. I tried to plug... more

I wanted to stay at a budget place with a pool. This was the only one in the Lonely Planet guide in Playa. So off I went. The pool is too dirty to swim in. Even if you wanted to, the scuba diving students use it every day and you can't really stay in there when they acquisition it. The... more
