Having tried Iberostar Quetzal in 2013, we have decided to compare. 1. Location Playa Del Carmen is an hour away from Cancun. If you want your ocean clean and uncrowded, your nights quiet, and your kids safe, Playa is definitely a better place for you. The usual back-and-forth private transportation cost is about a hundred but Riu scores an extra... More

Just got back from a week stay at the Riu Playacar and it was a great week away. The staff was fantastic, rooms were nice/clean and the beach/ocean was beautiful. I was really impressed with the food both in quality and selection - certailny recommend the Mexican a la carte! A real added bonus for us was the option to... More

I have just returned from an amazing two weeks at Riu Playacar- 27th July - 10th August. The service and entertainment team make this hotel an absolute gem, a real find. There's lots to keep you occupied (volleyball, yoga, games, polo, football, salsa, fun competitions) or if you just want to chill on the gorgeous beach seconds from the pool... More

We stayed the first week in August. Second visit to this RIU property. Traveled with our 2 young adult daughters and 83 year old mother in law. Animacion staff - Fredy especially - did a great job! My mother in law wanted to take him home. Was her first trip to Mexico and all the bartenders by the pool made... More

We stayed at this hotel from 25th July till 8th August 2014 This was the first time we have stayed in Mexico and after checking out the reviews of other hotels/Resorts in the area, we decided on Riu Playacar, and we are so pleased that we did as the place was perfect. We had room 4306, which is half way... More

We stayed at Riu Playacar 8/1-8/9/14. For the past 6 years we have stayed in Cancun (Riu Caribe, Riu Peninsula, Cancun Palace) (2 Adults 30's and daughter age 11) This year I wanted to try Playa del Carmen for a change up since we have never been and always heard great things. Read many reviews on TA.com and decided to... More

I just returned a couple of days a go from a 7 day vacation to this lovely place, I don't even know where to start. Booking thru their website was a breeze, super easy, accurate and best of all I paid for it until I showed up. The hotel is not all luxury but super cozy, you have everything you... More

My husband and I took a long weekend getaway at the Hotel Riu Playacar - a rare trip without kids. Our family has stayed at countless all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, and this resort wins in a number of categories: 1. The beach. It's spectacular and well-maintained. 2. The layout. Breakfast and lunch buffets are in the lobby, while the lunch... More

The rooms smelled like mold and the management said the hotel will go under renovation in 2015. There was no light on the shower. it was really dark, so you could not see how clean it was, but after a couple of margaritas and pina coladas, who cares! The entertainment crew was awesome! Always ready to go, funny and creative.... More

We travelled to the Riu Playacar for a week at Easter. We found the location to be perfect, only 50 pesos to get to 5th ave. although if you paid in US $ it was still 5, so better to use pesos. Our girls, 6 & 16 both had a wonderful time, the resort was big enough to keep them... More
