My husband and I stayed the week of Feb 5-12. We really liked the size of the resort as a smaller venue. The pluses - the beach, umbrellas, easy of navigation, laid back feel, ice cream each afternoon, coffee/tee in the "jungle" in the later afternoon, location to town, friendly staff and plenty of food. The drawbacks - hot water... More

My husband and I stayed at the reef Jan 14-21. We had a room next to the pool and just steps to the beach. We loved the jungle feel of the resort and it was nice and easy to navigate. We have stayed at huge resorts in Mexico and Dominican and have decided that this resort had all we needed.... More

Worn out rooms, poor food even with the Premium upgrade. The upgrade provides better spirits, but beer and wine are local/mexican. Buffet food provides chewy meat, tasteless chicken and bland fish. Basic vegetables are warm at best. Think you can relax on the Premium only beach, think again, loud thumping drum and bass music starts every day at 10am and... More

Had a good time at Reef Playacar. Main asset is the location: on the beach at a 10 min stroll to Playa del Carmens 5th Avenue. Also great fun: the jungle style decoration of the resort. It had plants (loads), little tree dwelling bears, monkeys and some kind of long legged guinea pigs, strolling around for everyone to see. And... More

As a traveler, you never really know what you're going to get when you book a resort. Fortunately, there are reviews like mine that help paint a better picture. I was informed by one of the staff that this is a "boutique" style hotel, and therefore smaller and more personal than most. The environment of the hotel is very relaxing;... More

STAY AWAY from the Reef Playacar and the Reef CoCo Beach. The resort is what we expected and almost beautiful the staff and food good but its a mirage for very professional con artists and the leading vacation club is a scam. Yes we spent more money than I will admit to and no services or future accomidations. My only advise... More

This was our second time at the Reef. We loved it. Bad points first: The rooms are sort of run down, with lumpy pillows, creaky beds, mildewy smell. And the food, with a few exceptions, is just not that good. But for us, those things were not the main points. The beach is just gorgeous...beautiful white sands and blue blue... More

If you like lounging around on a beautiful beach, with lots of buffet food and alcoholic beverages, this place is for you. Lacking were planned activities and a nightclub with a suitable dance floor and music. You need to spend a lot more for excursions to interrupt an otherwise boring venue. There were bicycles, but they were in short supply... More

Our time spent at this resort was most enjoyable! It is a quaint, comfortable clean resort and the staff was friendly and helpful. The buffet was my favorite place to eat! The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. The rooms and bedding are clean. The walkways are a tropical paradise and the beach and pools are beautiful. We loved... More

Our annual trip to Reef Playacar was fraught with difficulties BUT the staff at the Reef was incredibly helpful. My lost passport and a medical emergency necessitating a Dr being called to the resort and an ambulance to the hospital were handled expertly and efficiently. The staff remembered us from last year and greeted us like family. Willie in the... More
