It seems as though the reef club hasnt learned any lessons in nearly a year. In august 2008, we stayed at the hotel and become violently ill with sickness, diarrheoa and stomach cramps, which lasted for a month when we came home. Yes, a month! After reading these reviews, i am appauled that this is still going on. Upon our... more

My husband and I went to Playa del Carmen for the 5th time. We went with some friends who had booked the Reef Playacar for 2 weeks. We were not able to book the Reef Playacar for the first week so we booked the first week at another hotel call the LunaSol. What at a GREAT place that was. We... more

I've stayed at the Reef Club twice. Once in November 2004, and again in Jan 2007. I absolutely loved it. The atmousphere is gorgeous, there are beautiful flowers and vines everywhere, and our hotel room view and balcony were so beautiful. The scenery really made our pictures turn out great. There are also cute little lizards out and about every... more

After reading the reviews you will find a common theme. My wife and I stayed here for a short two day trip and never left the resort. We both became very sick the first night we got there and barely made it back home to receive medical attention. The food was horrible the sanitation was appalling. The concierge ( Brandon... more

We just returned from staying at The Reef Playacar. Where do I start, this is my 6th trip to Playa De Carmen. We arrived at the Reef with a surprise that my Wife and I have to get a room with 2 double beds instead of the king sized bed we had requested. We went to eat some dinner and... more

The sickness going around The Reef was a real thing. A previous review mentioned that the staff blamed it on going into town. No way! Our group of 15 family members had 8 of us getting chills, throwing up, having diarrhea, and stuck in bed for a day or two during our 5 days there. None of us went into... more

For everyone that has gotten sick, one of my family members did as well, it is from eating the fruit. She didn't like the buffet food, so she ate the whole time was fruit, and she deifinately paid for it, it caused a bacterial infection in the intestines, nothing life threatning or anything, just has to run its course. The... more

Unfortunately we read these reviews after our plans were already set. Upon arriving at the resort, we used hand sanitizers before and after eating, drank bottled water, brushed with it, etc. and like all the other reviews say, our entire group of 6 became violently ill and bed-ridden after two days at the resort. It starts with stomach cramping followed... more

We came back from the Reef Playacar on Friday nite. This is a nice size resort that's not crowded. The rooms are simple and clean, if you're looking for a luxury resort, this is not for you. The only really bad thing I have to say about this resort is the buffet food, I personally didn't care for it, but... more

I just want to start off by saying The Reef Playacar is the most beautiful resort I have been to. It is built within a preserved jungle, so walking through the resort you will see a natural cenote, iguanas, geckos, and cute squirrel/rabbit type animals that I can’t remember the name of. The beach is the best in the area... more
