After much deliberation my fiancé and I picked Mahekal for our destination wedding, the last weekend in April. The hotel and everyone that worked there exceeded our expectations! It was was the perfect place. We had 75 guests join us and everyone loved it there. We wanted to stay within walking distance to town and Mahekal is about 2 blocks... More

The Mahekal is a unique experience. Reviews are correct about the serenity and staff. Grounds are tended to daily and the location on the beach is unmatched. It's a real authentic experience, not a flashy, sterile environment. I will say that our 2nd floor ocean-view room in the north end of the complex was more jungle than ocean. The food... More

My husband and I recently stayed at Mahekal for our friend's destination wedding (which was also at the resort). While there we stayed in the Ocean View Room but since we had 20 friends also staying at the hotel we got to see a bunch of the other rooms. Overall, this place is a nice place to go if you... More

The resort and grounds were amazing. The staff were very attentive. The food was amazing. The beach was the best in Playa. Even though this is within walking distance to 5th Avenue, it was very quiet. We plan on returning. Our favorite part was breakfasts by the beach. This isn't a large, ornate, all inclusive - this was exactly what... More

My wife and I just returned from a 9 night stay at Mahekal and all the good things said about it are true. It's a beautiful property with great people. Like many have said, if you are looking for an Ai where everything is sterile and concrete this is not for you but if you have seen the photos and... More

This is our second year staying at Mahekal and we will return! We love the personal service at Mahekal. We stayed in the "cheap seats" and were treated like royalty! Everyone there worked so hard to make our stay memorable and enjoyable. The food was really good! Last year it seemed there was more variety but, the food is so... More

Second trip to Mahekal and I am certain it will not be the last. We were there last year in March and just returned last month. The staff are so SO wonderful and attentive, pleasant and happy to help. I will say I think the food is a little bland. I don't eat cheese, so nothing really tasted like anything... More

Stayed here for a week in early May. We have been coming here since 1988 on a regular basis. Food, service and location continue to be outstanding. Friendliness and interaction with working staff (waiters and bar tenders) are what make Mahekal distinctive. Happy hour at the Casa Club is a great opportunity to meet folks from all over the world.... More

Mahekal Beach Resort was exactly what we were looking for! Small, boutique size, in a great location within walking distance of everything in Playa. (Much better than the huge, self-contained all-inclusives imho.) We stayed in a Garden View Caribe palapa, which I think is one of their most economical rooms, and it was fantastic! Huge room with hammocks on the... More

Started with the typical - paid for sea view but rooms had barely any. Eventually got some first floor that had a nice view. rooms are quite dated and bathrooms greatly need some refreshing. Food is decent for a HB arrangement but they would not prepare any boxed lunch prior to restaurant opening for lunch....
