I used to live in Playa del Carmen, so I knew the exact area I wanted to stay - somewhere QUIET, and that can be very difficult to get in Playa within walking distance to town. The price was right, my room was spotless, the housekeeping staff was very caring, and the entire Front Desk staff excellent. Carlos went out... more

My husband and I needed a hotel that was close to 5th avenue but not close enough to hear all the noise. This hotel is tucked away on 10th avenue and calle 30 in walking distance to everything. El fogon (our favorite) was 7 blocks away along with mega, if you go right of the hotel, walk a block down... more

For what we paid, it was fabulous. The hotel was prettier than the pictures posted on this site (its YELLOW!) It was clean, well maintained, the air conditioning was cold, the location was convenient and fairly quiet. The service was good but not overly-friendly. The pool was gorgeous, shady and cool. We didn't eat at the restaurant- apparently breakfast comes... more

I got a really good price through expedia... but because it was so cheap I was a little worried about what to expect. But let me tell you, I could not have been more pleasantly surprised! First let me say that Maria at the front desk was the nicest and friendliest staff member I've ever dealt with at a hotel.... more

Very friendly staff, clean, convenient location to beach and 5th Ave., but away from the crowds. 15 blocks to the ferry/bus station/collective vans, but we like to walk so no problem for us. Rooms were kept clean, enough towels & supplies each day, grreat firm beds! Bathrooms could be a little improved, water presssure low but adequate. Liked that they... more

This a good choice for a budget hotel. The location is great. 1 Block from 5th avenue and 2.5 blocks from the beach. The first room we were given had a moldy smell. When I asked to be switched the girl at the front desk laugh and admitted that they get complaints about that room all the time. It took... more

I went to Playa a couple of years ago with one of my friends. I loved this hotel, mostly, but there were a few things that were not so good. Since May of 2006, has the flushing problem improved? we were suppose to put our toilet paper in bags, rather than flushing after use. I didn't, but chose to only... more

My boyfriend and I just got back from a week at the Hotel Riviera Caribe Maya, and it was an fantastic place. Located in a quiet spot, right where you need to be (only a block from the main strip) and only 3 short blocks from the beach. Staff was very nice. Air conditioning was excellent. Pool was AMAZING. It... more

The Riviera Caribe Maya is a very clean hotel with excellent working air conditioning... but the reason we gave the hotel an okay rating is because the beds are VERY uncomfortable. I am the type of person who can sleep anywhere, but these beds were out of control hard. My husband unfortunately has a bad back, and the bed made... more
