My girlfriend and I have been twice in 3 years to LP, and I actually think our second stay last week was better. It seems the 1st visit the area was still reeling from a hurricane, and the grounds were in a state of shock. But this time the grounds were outstanding, very well manicured, and full of all sorts... more

My wife and I recently stayed at Hotel Las Palapas. The place is north of the heart of the tourist area of Playa del Carmen, at the end of a winding street down a hill, so it's somewhat secluded, but within walking distance of all the touristy restaurants and shops. The hotel staff were friendly and efficient. They helped us... more

We stayed on this wonderfully and lovely hotel the second time, after we had great experience the last year but earlier and not between Christmas and New Year. Also this year we had absolutely friendly and perfect services in restaurants, cabanas, and so one. Nothing was bad, just one: The beach club nearby around 100 meter distance, all cabanas had... more

LOCATION playa del carmen at the end of ave. 5 right at the beach, close all the tourist shops. 35 peso taxiride to main bus station. ROOM we stayed in the topfloor bungalow. we had a veranda with two hammocks, table and chair. two queen beds (yes they were hard but if that's what you like you will have a... more

Both Las Palapas and Shangri-La are older places. They are similar, close to each other, both a short walk to town. While the rooms in Las Palapas are nicer and cleaner, neither one should cost as much as it does !!! They overcharge because the consumer pays, and evidently could not care less that these rates have gone above and... more

Okay, after many months of anxiety on where stay and gambling on Las Palapas all I can say is wow. The place is awesome. The views are unreal and the beach is picture perfect. You will not regret staying here. The only negative is the beds. My gosh they are incredibly hard and uncomfortable. Other that that it is well... more

This may not be a large, shining resort but the location and grounds is so ideal it is quite easy to put up with any small inconviences. Nestled in the jungle and touching a beautiful beach it is just a five minute walk to the action of fifth avenue. We went to 5th every day and night and the beach.... more

First impression of the hotel was not a good one by any means. The first room that we were given had a very strong odor of mold & mildew. The staff was very responsive when we requested a new room. Grounds are very nice at Las Palapas and the rooms are clean with the exception of the linens. In both... more

Las Palapas was just what I was looking for. It has a great beach with bar and shade, tons of chairs. Also a nice pool and grounds. it is easy walking distance to the atractions of Fifth Avenue, but quiet at night in the manicured garden grounds. The staff was very friendly. I felt that I was in Mexico, not... more

What a beautiful place! The grounds are set in a near-jungle with beautiful plantings. The beach is lovely, with plenty of chairs and shade, the palapas rooms have authentic palm roofs and plenty of space, and the staff are just fantastic. (Ask Obaldo at the bar where to eat real Mexican food). Another plus is that Las Palapas is on... more
